Do these dealers know what they're selling??

Well we live and learn. I thought the 2.8 didn't appear before '04 or '05.

And take cmohr's statements with a pinch of salt. He came round last night, and while the KJ was certainly a bit noisier than normal I wouldn't have described the sound as life-threatening! Cmohr assured me it sounded much worse from the driver's seat - I was listening from our front deck.

Trust me, IT IS..When its idling you can only bearly here it, but, by the time the engine gets to 2 - 2.5 rpm its absolutly screeming. You can see the pulley dancing around flapping left and right and the serpintine belt vibrating and flicking around as well, if it goes, no Altenator, No Power Steering, NO WATERPUMP. The serpentine belt will allmost surely be thrown off and be entangled by the Fan and its residual wind down could demoslish the fan and or radiator shroud, and possibly damage the core itself. And with my luck, that will be yet another 1000 odd dollars to fix as well. Jeep advised to NOT Run the engine.

Changed the new tensioner over last night, quite literally took 5mins. The old one was absolutely stuffed, one of the bearings had 3mm of slop in it, I'm amazed it was still one there.

Alls good again (but what IS good).

Cmohr, I'm beginning to get worried about you. Garlic sugar in 40 tonne batches, Tuna Smeads loved by There Dixie Chicks - next it will be pink koalas dancing the Lambada followed by a long stay in the loony bin (sorry, pschyciatric ward).

Aus Jeep prices  Was quoted $1200 to replace the viscous clutch on the fan this week - mopar price in the US $90. Reason they gave was we replace the everything.

So now my $1000 1998 Nissan Nomad with 240, 000Ks on the clock, no door locks and an engine rebuilt by me ( why do I always end up with a box of bolts left over  )- is about to become my daily driver.

I've thought about patrols, navara's, hilux, JK's and now I'm thinking go simple... recycle, rebuild and re-use ( or what ever Bob the builder says) so now I'm thinking an FSJ or CJ8. At least they are simple, and if you hit them a few times they work. :D

We do seem to be seeing a large number of 'problem child' KJs of late. Is it the middle age of the vehicles? Can't be lack of maintenance around here. Maybe original poor build quality in some respects, or are we just expecting too much? Of course a good P76 is actually worth more now than it ever was. :grim:

Steve, why noy just remove the viscoius fan completely and replace with a Thermo, Thats actually what i'm thinking of doing to mine anyway. You can get a big thermo and temp switch for around $200.00. Just mount it in the radiator cowling.

Food for thought.

Fortunately my viscous clutch packed up while still under warranty - but once the warranty runs out I will be sourcing parts overseas for sure.

I'm still getting it, just not today... A part they had tp fit, did not come from Jeep today, and will now be tomoorow, It just frustrates me that every time I open my mouth "something" happens.
