Hello all,
Ive been reading alot about these little diesels and have found one in the area for sale.
The guy who has it just brought it in for its 50000 mile check up and had a new air filter and fuel filter put in and cleaned the EGR and. Oil changed in motor and tranny. Anyways he said the CEL came on and the shop and the owner cant figure out why it is on??? any ideas?

A few other questions do the CRD's come with the 545rfe transmission?? same as behind the ram motors?
He is also unsure if the computer has been updated but I think all 06's had the updated TCM am i right???

I'am a huge fan of diesels hope to be a future Duramax owner! what a motor that is!

I would not buy one with a CEL.

it can be simple or complex and until someone troubleshoots it - you don't know.
and there are no trained Techs.
Chrysler did a 45 minute video 5 years ago and no shop sees enough to develop experience.

you have to be prepared to work on it.

And - if you can post the Engine code here - there are several folks that can help troubleshoot.

If you do a P0299 search here you'll get about 160+ hits

these seemed relevant

P0299-BOOST PRESSURE SENSOR POSITIVE DEVIATION

Not sure what that means....

IMO, I would avoid a CRD with a CEL at all costs. There are a good number of CRDs on the market at any given time, so why settle for one that already has issues. As someone else said, this CEL could be a $10 fix, or a $500 headache.... and it could be a recurring issue.

If you can buy it for less then book value, take it. But be prepared to work on it your self, or look for another with no CEL.

sled0890 - you don't list a location - but do you have to pass an annual inspection?

Even states without emissions won't pass an annual inspection with a CEL on. So that could force you to fix it and limit the time available. (some states don't allow a title transfer without an inspection).

fixing the CEL could be cheap - it could be expensive.
My glow plug should have been a $30 fix - but Chrysler's warranty dept easily paid over $3000 by the time they figured out they had to replace the head.

Do you have a known Diesel mechanic who could help you? - are you doing this yourself?
are you planning on paying a shop or dealership?

Im in Wisconsin so no emission tests and no inspections.

I am capable of fixing the issue. He said it runs better then when he originally brought it in for the 50000 mile check up now that he has it back and that was with the CEL off. So maybe when they were going through all the sensors and everything one is a little loose?? maybe a tube is cracked??

I will run the GDE hot tune within the next month if i do get the jeep and it seems like that clears up alot of the unnecessary sensor issues...

Spend some extra time talking to GDE

They kinda limit posts here because of some flak about vendors posts

but they know what they're doing.

I test drove the lil bugger today and its a cool little jeep for bombing around town but I don't think its for me! Doesn't have the get up and go that I was expecting...

Interested to see the Stage 2 turbo kit and if that will pick up the acceleration!

It will. But, it's a diesel. If you want a low 0-60 time, you're going to have to settle for something else.

That said, the GDE tune helps out significantly. I've always had the power needed when I stomp on the pedal.
