I have no idea if this should go here...it might just be a mechanical issue. About 45 min ago the wife and I were grocery shopping. My KJ is a multipurpose KJ ;) Anyway, we are headed out and I hit the unlock on my fob...the window pops up and my wife tries to open the rear door and nothing. She gives me the look. I laugh and say it is not me just open the door! She yells for me to unlock it and I hit the unlock again...well about 5 times as she is trying to open the door. I just give her a look and I go to open it. You know the, WTH are you doing just open the bleeping door! LOL. Well....it won't open. I try my key in the back and it only turns about...1/4 way in each direction. The other doors unlock and the lights turn on but the door won't open. It almost feels like the handle is not being pulled out all the way...does that make sense? Has anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it?
I took off my spare thinking, maybe just maybe there is too much weight on it. Nope still no go. I didn't think that was really the issue but thought hell it only takes a few moments why not rule it out 110%.
I am going to pull up my repair manual and see what it says. I have a feeling I need to some how get the door open to remove the back plastic door cover, lol. So...I might be doing some cutting tonight
Always something.
OH I just remember yesterday and the day before when I was coming home I heard a...pop or more like...something heavy hit my tailgate/rear door. I disregarded but now I am thinking that was not such a good idea. :banghead:

ok I got it. On the back door there is a access minidoor. You open then and then lift the cotton and push through the plastic. Once inside you put your hand over to the side of the lock and there is a "L" shaped bar. Just need to put that back into place...meaning flip it up. Door now works. :)

What do you mean you tried the key on the back door?

I mean I tried the key in the hole ;) I was thinking that it was not unlocked for some reason but in the end the "L" bar/lever was not being engaged. A simple adjustment and it is back up and running.

the key in the door sounds odd to most of us because i think the key hole in the rear gate was just an 02 thing, my 03 doesnt have it

Yeah. I don't remember seeing any KJ's with a key hole in the rear gate. I guess I never noticed if the 02's had it, but I know my `04 does not.

Pretty sure the 02 kj's has a key hole in the rear gate and the passenger door. Believe it was one of those things that was taken away. My manual also said something about not having a key hole on the passenger door if it has a security system.

Some early kj's didnt have power locks or windows either. Personally Id kinda like to have a basic kj like that for offroading. SFA it and run it into a river!
