[quote][/You can't honestly dispute the fact that the Hilux is the AK47 of the automotive world.quote]

Does this mean build quality is entirely based on the country of origin?
How about built by third graders all over the world with excessive tolerances, questionable accuracy, and horrible ergo's? But hey... it always starts!!!

Not in the least, build quality does not lie in country of origin, nor would I ever say that. Build quality is set by management at the factory, and their corprate puppeteers. My feelings are polar oppsites of what the OP has posted in this, and other threads on LOST. Seems that every time the word "reliablity" is mentioned he starts bashing all forms of Japanese autos. I know he is doing nothing more than trolling, but he cought me at the end of a very long day.

And yes, the AK series is very loose, questionably accurate, and lacks ergonomics... but... when it comes to the perverbial doo doo hitting the fan, I would rather have one in my hands than my "trusty" M4.

Loose tolerances are not a bad thing. Read this link to understand why, then come back and play nice with everyone.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4328167.html?series=56

The problem here is that auto manufacturers are ALL behaving in exactly the way described in this article. They didn't used to do this. It used to be the guy building them... ACTUALLY BUILT THEM. So stuff had to work and problems were figured out EARLY b/c it never got off the shop floor if it broke when they picked it up.

I was unaware of a flame war going on here. I guess you took my statements as insults, when I was just pointing out the painfully obvious holes in your logic. Unlike yourself, I never resulted to name calling (i.e. "boy") nor took anything said here personally. If you feel your stance will be better supported by ignoring someone who points out the flaws in your logic, by all means do so, it wouldn't be the first time the "Finger in ear - LALALALA" defense has been used in debates. Furthermore, I never once said that the USA makes inferior products, I was just pointing out the fallacies in your initial post AND in previous posts littered about on this forum. Making audacious statements, as you have, only encourages others with open minds to question your motives. If by some miracle you produce some factual evidence of your "Japanese = crap" claims, I will gladly stand corrected.

Geordi - I am playing nice, and I fully understand the point being made in that article. Another article I keep in my pile of "good reads" is Jay Leno's - "Calling All Machinists" (Popular Mechanics,June 2000, p.50/53, http://books.google.com/books?id=adFe5-zs8ekC&pg=PA50&lpg=PA50&dq=jay+leno,+CALLING+ALL+MACHINISTS&source=bl&ots=05ajzfv_cp&sig=lx9_y-JOfFTzMp7hYPnOzhEX-7k&hl=en&ei=_tJgS4j4AZD-NZWdlaAL&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CAkQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false) I guess I should not have attacked the UAW in general, that was wrong of me to infer ALL members of that particular union were the bad apples. I am sure there are quite a few that take their jobs very seriously and maintain an extremely high level of pride and quality in their work. It is that small percent that drags the name down with the rest of them. Take for instance the car owned before my Liberty, a '98 Neon ACR coupe. Located in the rear bottom corner of the driver's-side window was a sticker which read, "Crafted with pride in the Belvidere Assembly plant. Belvidere, Il" This sticker, placed there to inform the consumer that their new car was built with all the care and pride the assembly-line workers could muster, was crooked on the glass. It sat canted, at about 20* from level, for all to see.
