I have been experiencing lightly stuck front pads on my CRD. I raised it the other day and found it very hard to move the tires. I opened one of the bleeder valves and there was pressure. After releasing the pressure, both calipers let go and wheels turned easily. This tells me that the calipers are not binding. This leaves the master cylinder or the Hydraulic control unit. Has anybody experienced this? Is it normal on this car? Any recommendations?

Had one rear caliper lockup, but not what you are talking about.

The front brake hoses has a inner liner that can melt and cause a restriction of fluid flow. Usally it's just one wheel not both. If both wheels loosen wiith loosen one bleeder then I would look at next in line such as a before a tee to the front brakes. Just follow the lines and work back to the master cylinder. You already started the process, keep at it and let us know.

Was there any resolution to this? Mine did exactly the same thing today. Fronts got real hot(could smell them) and when I opened one bleeder valve it released the calipers? Did my abs screw up and stick on or something? Thanks

Had the same problem about a year ago. I found that cracking the master bleeder would release the calipers. I started by changing the brake fluid and other than getting rid of the old fluid, no help. I found that side stepping the brake pedal and let the brakes release quickly after a stop would get them release. I then placed a .045 shim between the master and the booster. Problem gone.

Thank you, mine released when i did the bleeder on the caliper. If that didn't work my next spot was the master. I might have to wait till it does it again and try the master and if that releases them, then do the shin or do you think i should just go ahead and do the shim? How often would yours do this b/4 you solved the problem?

I noticed brake drag mainly on short trips. Rotors would be warm, but not hot enough to smell. I would recomend the next time you feel drag, crack the master cyl bleeder to see if the brakes release. If they do then try a shim. If that corrects the problem adjusting the booster push rod (if adjustable) would be the optimum fix. I'm sure someone on the forum could tell you if the rod is adjustable. If this is your problem, you won't believe how the Libby will coast after adding the shim!
