Help with fumoto valve

OK so I ordered a Fumoto valve. Went to install it today and there is no way it's going to fit. Either A) there is an adaptor I need and didn't get or B) somebody stripped my oil pan and re-tapped it in a bigger size once upon a time. Any advice? All I got was a single valve in a pouch. Seems like before I had to get an adaptor for the valve.

Well the usual size for the drain plug is an 8 MM allen wrench configuration. The previous owner must have stripped and re-tapped the oil pan to a bigger size. I had no fitting issues with my Fumoto valve at all, just took the old screw out and put in the fumoto valve with the washer in. What size did you get for the Fumoto? Mine is the Fumoto F-102 PF-3/8" thread.

My answer: B.
there are 4 or 5 threads so the pans strip pretty easily....

Ok I was able to find the original drain plug from my previous CRD. It matches my new Fumoto perfectly. So...B is correct. Some moron stripped my drain pan. Sigh...

So now what? My father says you can buy reducers if you know the thread pitches you need that will allow me to go back to the original size and be able to use my Fumoto. Anybody ever used these?

You can helicoil it to the correct size and it will be stronger than the orginal.

Please elaborate. I'd love to be able to use my Fumoto. This diesel engine oil is nasty.

You get the kit from the auto parts store. Special tap, helicoils, install tool and instruction on drill bit size. You first drill out hole, then tap and install new stainless steel threads with locktite.

Ah I see. I thought those were for bolts in which no fluid is being held back. Won't helicoil leak fluid though? I definitely will be looking into something like that. Maybe I can research and figure out what I need before the next oil change.

PF-3/8 is what the fumoto site lists for the actual size of the stock CRD drain plug. I assume that's standard "pipe thread"?

I had the same issue on my car. Stripped the pan, had to retap with helicoil and used a cooper washer on the plug. During the 5 years of me changing the oil it never leaked, and when it did i just went under there and gave a better turn and this was a normal plug that i had to unscrew every time i had to change the oil.

3/8"= standard

If anyone here has a better idea post up!

I would find out the new thread size and return the fumoto for one of the newer tap size.

Find out what you have and match it with another Fumoto.

I just did my oil change today and was prepared with a thread gauge this time.

Our trucks original oil drain plug is a 3/8 inch British standard parallel pipe thread. That would be 19 threads per inch and an outer diameter of 0.656 inches.

If you don't have the 8mm hex (Allen) plug, don't assume that it has been stripped. The Allen was superseded with a standard hex bolt (pn. 5191971AA).

My question is, to buy with or without the nipple?

Without is what I choose. It fits up under the mopar skid plate with nothing hanging down below the skid. with the nipple I doubt it would be like that.

X3 on the idea of buying a Fumoto that fits the threads you have now. Return the other, or sell it here.

X2 on the 3/8 x 19 tpi British pipe thread being the original drain plug thread.

10-4 guys....I will find out what they have threaded it to and match up a Fumoto. If I can't find one to match, I'll retap it a next size up that I can find a Fumoto for. Thanks.

So while my Jeep is dead awaiting GDE to return my ECU...

I decided to take the drain plug out. Measured it with a regular tape measure and it appears to be 11/16" wide. Obviously there isn't an 11/16" thread Fumoto, so what thread would you guys say this is? It appears to be a fairly course thread as well. There are no markings whatsoever on the head. I'm thinking it's standard...but if it's metric then I guess it's probably about an 18mm or so?

I guess I need to take this plug to a hardware store and figure out exactly what thread this is.

No Fastenal here. But our hardware store has every nut and bolt known to mankind. It's a "Mom&Pop" kind of store.

OK so I did find a Fastenal location nearby. Took the plug in there and it appears my oil pan was tapped out to a 3/4"-16 UNF thread. Hmm...

So I have a Fumoto T204N on order that should work just fine. Yay.
