hi everyone, my name is Ross and I'm from Connecticut. just wanted to introduce myself in the CRD section. I recently purchased my '06 CRD sport and I love it! Can't wait to start doing some work to it. I think the GDE tune will be the first thing I do, after a complete fluid change.

It seems like I should check my filter head for leaks and pull the heater plug to check that as well. It's very cold up here this time of year so i can't leave it unplugged.

Last month the EGR valve did need to be replaced, thankfully it was covered under warrenty. I'm open to any suggestions as far as preventative maintinence and easy upgrades. Thanks in advance.

What's up, Ross. Something you may want to do until you get the GDE tune is to unplug your MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor, known in these here parts as the ORM mod. That will prevent the EGR from flowing into the intake, combining with oil from the crankcase vent, and gumming up your intake. May want to pull and clean your MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor when you do your fluid changes as well.

So, MAP cleaned, MAF disconnected. The only funny thing is that the CEL did not come on after the MAF was unplugged. I drove for about ten minutes and it never came on, isn't the CEL supposed to come on when the MAF is unplugged?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

The cel will come on the second time you start it with it unplugged.

Listen to linewarbr, he's got the basic to-do list down pat.

In regards to the fuel filter, you should invest in the new Mopar Fuel Filter head. It costs $80-100, but includes a brand new filter and a heater plug that won't leak/burn.

Welcome!

The CEL did come on when I drove it last night and stayed on this time. If i order a GDE tune i should be able to plug the MAF back in I'm assuming since the tune eliminates the EGR on it's own?

You can plug the MAF back in. However, you should know that the tune doesn't eliminate the EGR, not exactly. It just turns off its normal, everyday function. From GDE:

Quote:
The EGR is not actuated in normal driving conditions. We will open it for about a half second on a very fast tip out of the throttle after a hard acceleration to help bleed pressure off the intake side and reduce forces on the turbo.

This tip-out use is a reverse function from what brings soot into your engine, so soot is still no longer a worry.
