Hit the brake and it popped free, no wreck, no news crews, nothing on 10:00 o'clock news, no recall.
Turned out to be my Aftermarket floor mat scooted forward.
Reached down and pulled it back 1 1/2", good to go!
Proof, CRD owners are smarter than Camry owners :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

phew... you figured out what caused the stuck throttle before you crashed... I wonder if the media will catch onto this one and "encourage" Chrysler to recall our Jeeps to fix the problem.

Then again, I never knew it was the manufacturer's duty to fix owners.

OMG I got a set for the front, mopar slush mats I had got a hole where heel rests and was making the carpet wet. The Husky liners hold so much.....with all the snow we been getting they could be used as a wading pool almost and the carpet is dry.

You don't have to have a political affiliation to want to buy american and be annoyed with people buying toyotas. You just have to have some sense.

Yep, Husky and WeatherTech both form fit and integrate with the little nubby "hold the matt in place" tab. I like the latter, but both are better than stock.

In the old days, you could also hit the clutch or pop the shifter out of gear if the accelerator sticks... oh, wait you can still do that... The Toyota thing reminds me of the de-laminating tires causing explorers to flip over fiasco. Seems to be that inflating your tires properly and not driving a heavy truck-based SUV like a race car saved a lot of lives there, too...

I agree, Ford used to like to put door stickers that would recommend under inflated tire pressures.

"Its, All about that car like ride."

I even owned an F-450 that had some low pressure on the door sticker, those tires cupped like hell and squirmed under hard turns, until I pumped the pressure up to the maximum psi stamped on the side of the tire.

So there you go, another manufacturer had a blunder back in its day.

It doesn't help that the tires ford put on were absolute junk. Even properly maintained, they were crap.

You might be a little late boiler. I was called a conservative for not bashing my Jeep. Lets see, when I go to buy something, I make sure I am going to like it. What is the point in buying something if it is not built to your standard, just so you can whine that it has such poor quality compared to brand B? It is going to make your life miserable, just because you know life would have been so much better if you had bought brand B. So you buy the brand you don't like, then you join a forum and bash it, and whine about its poor quality to the enthusiasts? That would be like me buying a Kia, knowing I would not like a Kia, join the Kia forum, then whine I don't like it, to all the Kia enthusiasts. It just does not make sense, does it?

Any ways, the Jeep I bought in 06 has had only 2 repairs that I paid for. 1 blower resister, 2 new fuel head. That don't really seem like such a poor quality vehicle. The day I find out I bought a dud, it is going for sale, even at a loss, I will not drive it and be miserable.

End of Rant.

My CRD fuel pedal got stuck in floor mat 2 years ago. I was going down hill and it got stuck at 1/2 throttle. Push it into neutral while simultaneously turning off ignition switch...non-issue in my book. It was nothing compared to having a runaway fuel control unit on a 4500 shp turbine on the CH-47D I used to fly (gotta react quick or rotor head/transmission will overspeed/overtorque and cause bad stuff like rotor head failing and/or tranny failure..neither good for crewmembers)

While I regret the loss of life with Toyota incidents, I am confounded by the utter stupidity of the average US driver. Our driver training should teach and test basic automotive knowledge like other country's do. The fact that certain driver's didn't know putting a transmission in neutral would disconnnect a runaway engine from the equation is truly sad.

PS I agree my Jeep Liberty CRD is a POS. I am in process of replacing AFC valve (wanted to work on shutdown if I ever had a turbo seal blow and have a runaway), cleaned out EGR valve (was very clean from SEGR and GDE tune), trying to tighten manifold bolts to fix a terrible oil leak that has damaged glow plug wire harness, fuel return lines, egr coolant feed lines, new rear wheels sensor in addition to EGR delete, aftermarket lift pump, racor fuel head, provent ccv filter, and 4 new glow plugs. Even though Libby is a POS, its the only small SUV available in a diesel and it has decent towing power and fuel economy. It is also one of the best 4x4 SUV's I've ever owned for driving in the snow. Its a love hate relationship.

Not to change direction with this thread but I'm not convinced that Toyota has actually found the problem with the accelerator. I HAD a toyota that this has happened to and when it did the pedal actually would disappear under you foot. Had nothing to do with pushing the pedal to the floor and it getting stuck. First time it happened wife got pissed at me because she thought i did it on purpose, then it happened again to her and luckily she was in the car to see what i did to stop the vehicle so she was able to get it under control. But once again had nothing to do with the pedal being pushed to the floor, the pedal would actually disappear under you foot. Almost like a electrical problem. Took it to the dealer and of course they said it was impossible to happen that way. Told service to take the car and drive it for a few days and it finally happened on the last day they were going to have it. Service guy was as white as a ghost, he couldn't believe how it would happen. They couldn't find any problem with it, I got ride of it later that same week. I have a feeling that Toyota may continue to have some problems even after this fix.

Wow, that's scary. I wonder if it was a flaw in the cruise control.

So you are saying, it was as if a ghost was pressing the pedal, or there was no return spring, or it just sunk to the floor on its own? If it disappeared it must be a magical pedal?
