I have been reading that alot of people with gas liberties are having ball joint problems and was wondering if this was going to carry over to the CRD. I figure if it does we will eat them even quicker due to the added weight of the CRD engine. When posting please state at what mileage you are and what mileage the failure happened if any.
Thank you.

Mine have been making noise since about 24000 miles. I have been trying to get them fixed for about a week. The dealership started to install new lowers and found the uppers to be bad also. I have an appointment to get upper and lowers on both sides replaced tomorrow.

12.4k miles and no problems......I did notice a little feathering on the outside edges at last rotation (around 11k miles) and brought it into S&S Tire where I work and the toe and camber was out a tad.
You gotta love working at a place where alignments are FREE. 8)

I had problems with a LBJ at about 25000 miles. It was cheap and easy to fix.

Do us all a favor and report it to the NHTSA. It's the only way to prod DC into doing something.

I filed a claim with them last week!!!!!

I was so disgusted last week when I found out the uppers were also bad I almost traded the Liberty in on a truck!!!

stick with it there jdreckard, I think that for the most part the CRD is a good vehicle. I get more than a little aggitated with it at times myself, but I really like my CRD and hope it lasts years and years. When mine go bad the first time out of warrenty I am going to get a set of moog lowers (they are serviceable and made better) and a set of servicable uppers if I can find them!

My lowers were dry as a bone and noisy at 5000 miles, it may be a result of the lift, not sure. Anyway I greased them with a needle fitting and they are quiet now. I'm afraid the dealer will squawk about the lift if I have problems with them in the future.

When my warrentee is up I'm thinking about fabricating my own upper control arm & somehow attach the front strut and spring to the upper to take the stress off the lower arm. I think that is where the problem is. There is too much direct weight on the lower arm trying to force the ball out of the socket.
