I purchaced a new Fumoto valve from a fellow board member. I've heard about the risk of damaging the threads of the pan and to not over tighten but should I use locktite on the threads to keep it from being too loose. I just don't want to really wrench down on it too much.

No, just use the gasket that comes with the fumoto drain valve. Some here prefer a copper washer but I used the supplied gasket for about 75,000 miles. Once tighten you won't have to loosen the drain again and damaging either the gasket or threads.

I used 2 thicker washers on mine (no locktite) to reduce the amount of threads going into the pan, it allows the oil pan to drain completely when doing changes. never an issue with coming undone.

I just used the gasket that came with it.... I hand tightened it and then tightened it some more with locking pliers.

The Fumoto is specifically designed to thread in to a certain depth to allow all the oil to flow out. So do not use anything other than what comes with the valve. Just screw it in...get it tight but do not overtighten it! Then enjoy. That's all there is to it. The gasket they give you with the valve will seal off just fine.

Next time you change your oil open the valve and let it drain completely, then unscrew the fumoto out of the oil pan and see what happens.
