H&R makes lift spring kit of 40mm #29203-1

There's plenty of lift springs kits out there, and even eibach makes a lowering spring kit. My primary goal is to improve the quality of the ride, not raise or lower the vehicle. Although, I wouldn't mind making minor adjustments to the ride height (±1"), as long as I was convinced the end result would be a more comfortable ride, without any other considerable negative effects.

Have you tried the Konis? any promising results? also, is there anything that makes the Konis more special than any other adjustable shock?

I have been using H&R for 8 years in motorsports, they have been great to me and my needs. I have a few trophies to back up my success. 40mm is not much of a lift, the reason I am interested in them. They would be a great match to my Koni's.

Yes I haev the Koni's and have put about 12000 miles on them. They are on their hardest setting, the perfomance increase on stock springs has been fantastic. Braking has improved adn stability has been improved. I cannto tell about towing as I have not really towed with any weight. So far the Koni's have been THE BEST MOD I haev done to the KJ yet.

What makes them special? NO ONE ELSE MAKES ADJUSTABLES THAT ARE TUNED TO THE KJ.

Rancho makes adjustable ones for the KJ.

In order to adjust the konis, they need to come off the vehicle, then reinstalled is this correct?

Ranchero built only for the KJ?

Koni fronts, yes have to be removed.
Koni rears, no just one end needs to be removed, compress and twist.

BTW there is one set of H&R Springs in North America and the dealer I inquired at can get them for $330 for a set of 4. Not sure if I am going to bite as I am in the hole right now.

Gotta link to those Konis?

Adjustable? Are you talking a little dial valve or re-valving the stacks?

What we are really talking about is tunable suspension. There are some great products for the Dodge trucks of which I have quiet a bit of experience with. I really would like to get some GOOD suspension for the KJ but it doesn't exist. OME makes the best IMHO, but there shocks aren't re-valvable race shocks, so it's not that great. The rear could probably fit some Fox or KING 2.0s but the front strut eliminates any real performance shocks up front. So we're stuck unless someone comes up with a CNC'd shock end adapter to use a short 2.O race shock with hiem ends. If we could get some real race shocks, then it is just a matter of picking your springs and get the right valve stacks. (The end result of custom valving is awesome but may take year(s) of trial and error to get what you want. Fortunately for me, there are those who have done that for the Dodges, so just pay'um some $ and enjoy the ride. Not so with the KJ).

A few words about springs. If you want a cushion ride, you want soft springs. But that comes at a price. Any big bump with bottom out (harsh) so you'll need a shock to take the bigger hit (again with the valving). And the shock will have to work harder so it will heat up and fade quicker. If you want big hit race suspension that will keep shock temps low, stiff springs will do. Example: The spring rates on my Dodges are a little less than 400 in-lbs. and that's with a 1000lb Cummins over the front axle. Yes, I would get shock fade if I beat it hard for hours on end. No, I don't do that.

Variable rate spring would be great, but your talking a very limited amount of travel and a lot of money for custom springs.

I'd say if you want to keep the ride height stock and are looking for a better ride, then keep the stock springs and search for shocks. Those KONi's look promising.

If you want more travel/height, then get some OME springs and pick your shocks.

Remember, stock suspension is designed for one thing: to ride good in a test drive and to be built as cheap as possible.
