Recently my 03 sport has been making this really strange crunch sound. it's only every once in a while, not every time i drive....but it almost sounds like metal being crunched. lasts for like a split second, not a sound that is drawn out. it sometimes makes the noise when i am in drive and make a turn, or even when i'm in park and slightly pull on my steering wheel. any ideas of what this could be?

if it matches a bump it could easily be the front sway bar bushings - they tend to dry and you get a metal/dry plastic squeak. - easily fixed with some Silicon spray on the bushings.

however if it's only when you turn - I'd check all clearances in the front end
wheel lock to lock right and left and look for clearance


Do you know if it got one of the Balljoint recalls? - they recalled everything once and some of the early KJ's twice -

you can also type in the last 6 digits of the vin and check for any outstanding recalls

yeah i'm pretty sure it's only when i make a turn, i'll be sure to listen out for it some more. so far i've only heard it when i do turn. i don't have any mods done to it, so i don't know if that could be affecting anything if that's what you're thinking of...however, i will definitely go check out those sites with my VIN to see if any recalls had been made. really appreciate the info!
