well maybe he did the right thing for him, I love my CRD I am glad I have it. so far I have had no real issues with it. it pulls on like a champ. I did however meet a guy that was working construction at one of the buildings I work at. He spotted my Jeep and said it looked very fimular to him and asked me about it. turns out it was his Dad's. They had some problems with it and traded it too. I don't undersatand what drove them to that because I looked at the dealers service history it was only ever in for recalls oil changes, inspections and to have the nav radio replaced 3x while they had it. After it was traded the Cluster unit was replaced.
Historically, the CRD has been a real lemon to some folks. Mostly the 2005 model over here. VM has been making these type of engines for a few decades overseas. I have had no issues with mine. I had the F37 done real early, even before a single driveability issue showed up. CAC hose sweating, ball joint, heater blower motor, some other reflash. that's it. Nothing mechanical. I think ULSD came out just in time to same many 2006's EGR. Anyway, these were designed as a boat motor among other applications and I think they're pretty much bulletproof.
