Hi all, I'm buying new tires for my stock 05 Liberty CRD (General Grabber AT2) from Tire Rack and was going to bring them into a tire shop to have them installed. I noticed the installation price from the shop includes new valve stems-- my liberty has the tire pressure management system with the sensors built into the stem. Do they reinstall the TPMS stem or am I faced with the warning light blinking with the new/non-sensor stems at install? Do I need to take them into the dealer to be mounted?

I ask since I had one stem snap (!!)... had that tire mounted as the spare at the back and had the tire shop install a new/non-sensor stem ($10 versus $$$ at the dealer). Since then I get the intermittent blink to check the spare tire's pressure-- not bad, but I don't want the light on constantly with 5 new tires.

Thanks!

Any tire shop ( that knows anything at all) should be able to do it

they shouldnt have to remove the stem to change the tires... they might charge you for a rebuild kit, which consist of new o-rings around the tpms. idk if its necessary really. in order to get rid of that blinking tpms light you will need to purchase a replacement for the one that is busted.

If you end up needing more sensors, I've got the 5 out of my '05 I'd sell for $20 each. I think they usually run around 50.

when I had my tires installed they did nothing with the valve stems. I did see at the places I got quotes that new stems were included, not sure if they add that as a standard item or if I would have been upcharged for the rebuild kit on each or if those places would have billed it not done it and kept the $$ as profit.
