I am just wondering if installing Samco hoses is a pain or is it easy to do? I was also thinking of having my diesel mechanic friend do the install. How long does the install take? Any tips, things to do or not to do? I didn't see anything under the CRD tech section.

Thanks!

If you can operate a hose clamp, you can install the hoses.

It is not hard at all, just make sure you have the correct hose clamps. You don't want the kind where the holes are open, it will tear the outside of the hoses. I would suggest ordering the Samco clips as they are application-specific.

The hardest part is threading the intercooler-to-intake hose down through the maze of stuff on that side of the engine. The turbo-to-intercooler hose is a breeze, since it is on top of everything.

When you install, you may want to keep and re-use the braid around the old hose. There is a sensor on the side of the airbox that is very close to the hose, and may rub when the hose swells under boost. I ended up cutting a square of a Mountain Dew can and putting it on my Samco and then wrapping it with Gorilla tape to protect it.

Thank you very much for the replies!

I haven't even looked to see where the hoses are located on the engine. I have 46,000 miles on the Libby, I just want to get these changed before they go :dead:

I was about to post a "how to" over in the CRD Tech Section with photos. I will do it later today. It is very easy to do though..

I was repairing a coolant/oil leak at the egr at the same time that I was doing the samcos. When I disconnected the hose most of my coolant ran out, so my tank was almost empty when i took these pics. I had been using some orange Prestone coolant. I also sprayed degreaser on the side of my engine block to remove the oil from the leak. I got a little carried away with the degreaser and that's why my engine is so clean in that last pic. After I started thinking about all the sensors under the hood I'm guessing it probably wasnt the best idea to hose the whole engine
