Did it go from smooth, to rough, or did it sit overnight?

It sat overnight but 10 minutes into the drive it began to sputter.

Could it have been existing water dormant in the tank?

The water will always settle to the bottom of the tank and thus is the first thing to be put through the system (filter, filter head, IP pump, rail and injectors) on the initial startup. to troubleshoot this properly, Have you recently filled your tank up?

If the answer to the above is yes, it is very important that you remove all the contaminated fuel, flush out the system and install a new filter. trying to start it with contaminated fuel is only going to do more damage. If you have fresh fuel and filter and good prime and it still won't start I would be looking at the IP pump for pressure output. If the fuel system has indeed ingested a large amount of water,as much as I hate to say this your pump and injectors could be trashed. Hope for the best.

I removed 20.5 gallons of fuel yesterday afternoon with te help of a temporary flow thru lift pump installed before the fuel filter and in the engine compartment coming through the air release valve on the fuel water separator housing.

Installed brand new fuel filter.

Opened the nut at the injector to get new fuel flowing.

I got some good results it started but it is making a really bad loud rocker knocking noise with smoke, lots of white smoke... lots of it.

The loud rocker rattling noise was seriously loud and concerns me.

The engine raced up and i shut it down.

Rocker or injector?

The noise sounded like a loud rocker lifter hitting metal on metal

P0093 we already know about - Rail pressure deviation large leak - Metering unit fully open and pressure still too low
P0191 - Rail pressure sensor offset test
P0192 - Rail pressure sensor SRC min <-- sensor wiring disconnected
P0340 - Camshaft signal incorrect

The rail pressure sensor faults are from probably disconnecting the sensor when messing with the Stryker. If they are active, make sure the wiring connector is fully seated.

The camshaft signal fault means that either the sensor is bad, or the timing has moved. The sensor is easy to change to see if it has failed in some way.

Can you confirm that the P0093 fault is setting while you are trying to start the engine (while it is cranking), or is it stored in the ECU from previously? Of the faults above, can your reader tell you if they are pending, stored, or active?

Mr. Mopar

You asked "Can you confirm that the P0093 fault is setting while you are trying to start the engine"

Answer. Yes it is setting while it is cranking, it is not stored in the ECU, I have erased the codes myself and they returned while doing so.

Although codes PO0191 and PO0192 have not returned.

You asked "Of the faults above, can your reader tell you if they are pending, stored, or active?"

Answer: I cannot distinguish between them.

The jeep finally started.

Here is the chain of events:

1. Installed temporary flow thru lift pump before the fuel filter to facilitate draining of the fuel from the tank, this eliminated the need to drop the tank to defuel it.

2. Drained tank, 20.5 gallons of bad bio-fuel which was not decanted enough and had water in it, connect a battery charger to the battery while your doing this so that it's ready when you need to crank it over, this part took almost 4.5 hours.

3. Installed new fuel filter.

4. Released fuel nut at injector and cranked motor so that new fuel would flow to injector.

5. Charged battery to full capacity.

6. Cranked engine at 30 second intervals to flush bad fuel from injectors and allow starter to cool down between cranks so that it doesn't burn out.

7. Said a prayer, downed three glasses of Johnny Walker red on ice with a splash of water and cranked.

8. The beast started 2 ½ days later ……. she turned right over in a cloud of white smoke this morning.

9. No engine codes showing, no smoke and she sounds as smooth as before.

All’s well.

Thats great! My friend had a similar experience but it ended up the other way, the car got parked in the bush.

Glad to hear it racer! Of all the steps I take when making BD drying is the step that I am most meticulous about. Once it's in the tank it's too late to process it further. My wife used to give me crap about fussing over my fuel. Your experience has made her quiet down.

If that happened to me I don't think I would ever try bio again. I would run some Diesel 911 like some else mentioned on the next 2 tanks.

What would be the reason for running Diesel 911?

I want everyone to know that Keith over at Green Diesel Engineering, helped me bring my dead jeep back to life. He walked me through the process of elimination with questions and answers regarding water in fuel.

He is an expert when it comes to our CRD.

Thank you Keith.

Now you need to go back to where you bought the fry oil and present them with a bill for your time.

RJM I've read your post on what you think about this stuff and i dont want to start getting off topic of how good or bad or how Powerservice is also a good paint thinner. :jester:

Seafoam makes a good camp fuel.

Why ask it in the form of a question when you already have a strong opinion about it? Why not just say how you feel about it and let the pissing match begin.

I was just trying to be helpful and suggesting what was recommended to me.
