BFG A/T vs Revo's

Alright I'm in a never-ending debate on which tires to get. I've currently got the stock ST's. I had some Revo's on my 95 XJ and loved em. However, I think the BFG's look badass. Anyways, what kind of difference in mud will there be between the two. I know that people say the BFG's weak spot is in the mud, but just how bad is it compared to the Revo's?

Since they are both ATs there probably won't be a clear winner here. Just looking at the tread patterns though I'd say the Revo would probably do better. The gaps seem to be wider and "open" front to rear which should allow for a little more cleaning....maybe.

I can vouch that the bfg's are less than impressive in the mud. They pack up real fast unless you spin them real fast. People buy them for their looks. Never had the Revo's.

revo's seem the fav here...

bfg at is a great all around tire.

People buy BFG All Terrains for their looks? News to me.... I bought them for their time proven performance, from the little experience I've had with the BFG's they work excellent in snow, and decent in mud. I personally love the tires, for obvious reasons.

The question should be how do they perform =
BFG's Vs. Revos in: Rain, Snow, deep snow, ice, mud, tread life etc......

I personally think that would be the best head to head comparison.

I have quite a bit of experience with both the BFG AT and MT tires. Currently I am running MT's on my TJ and AT's on our KJ. I have had BFG's on my vehicles for the past 10 - 15 years.

A few years ago we had an old Ramcharger and had BFG AT's on the front and MT's on the back (yes, we were poor and swapping tires took a few months!). We were out in a muddy muck fest one weekend, the type of muddy trails where in order to turn you had to let off the gas and pray to get the thing to turn. Anyway, the AT's turned into chocolate covered donuts with ZERO traction while the MT's happily slung mud everywhere. We actually stoped a few times and looked at the tires. MT's, clean tread, AT's, donuts... Our average speed was probably below 10 MPH and the AT's didn't seem to sling mud very well.

So, my point, from my experience, BFG AT's don't do well in goopy mud situations. Although, going from mud holes to dry pavement then back to mud, the AT's did clean themselves in short order between muck.

BTW, the key to tread-life on BFG's is to rotate them often!

Rock Crawling and Tough Looks = BFG
Snow, Mud, Rain = Revo

I don't think anybody said that. They each have their strengths. Self-cleaning is definitely not a strength for the BFG AT though. And the question asked above is which one would do better in MUD. As stated above...BFG for ROCKS and Revo for the wet stuff. That doesn't make one better than the other. It just depends on what you run in to while you're out exploring.

pretty sure the revo's and bfg at will suck bad in the mud. they just aren't designed for that kindof of stuff. on rocks they will probably be about equal, however the bfg have the 3 tri side wall so you can lower then down more which would result in more traction.

I've seen revo's in action and they've done well.... is the bfg at a better offroad tire? Depends on the circumstances. They are both great tires.

As for mud, BFG M/T is great for mud.

I am looking into going down a size in tires. My BFG's are 245/75's and I have been contemplating moving down to 255/70's. I did notice that the price difference between Revo's and BFGs is rather large in that size. The BFG's run about $159 a tire where the REVO's were around $120. Although I am a diehard BFG fan I may switch to the Revo's just for the $40 a tire price difference since they seem to perform well.

Just food for thought...

Are you going down in size for the price or is there another issue. I might be getting 245/75/16 Revo's real soon and just wantt to make sure that there are no issue. BTW I'll be using a Frankenlift.

I hate to say it to throw a wrench in the mix. But I was going over this same dilema a few months ago and I ended up getting Firestone Destination A/T's They are amazing!!!! Handle great on and off road, way less expensive then both the revo's and the BFG's and they look awsome. I have a pic of them on my car domain page. Feel free to check them out!!!

I have issues with rubbing on the 245's when I used spacers to push out the wheels. I have not modified the liner or pinch weld in the front and I don't really want to. Also want a little bigger footprint on the ground.

Hey All,

I just switched today from BFG's to the Revo's. I have not had a chance to play much with the Revo;s yet, but I must say the REVO is 100% less nosiey than the BFG. Also the ride on the road with the P-Metric Revo is much more plush then with the LT BFG.

Just my 2cents.

How has you're MPG held up with the Silent Armors? They are a very heavy tire with alot of rolling resistance.
