It can as long as you stay under 5K#. Folks across the pond tow way more than that but that is the rating here. I wouldn't go over 25' in length even with sway control. Not enough wheel base IMO.

You had better do more research on the Xtra Toy Hauler XT-190 trailer. I've Googled it and discovered the "dry weight" is indeed 3,465 lbs but the Gross Weight is 6,025 lbs.

I'm not an expert on trailers but I do believe it's too heavy for a gasser KJ.

The owners manual clearly states that a gasser KJ with an automatic transmission can pull a trailer up to 5,000 lbs GTW and no longer than 25'.

I have a gasser KJ with the Mopar trailer package (includes a transmission cooler) and occasionally tow a 16' floater trailer about. The total weight of my trailer plus the YJ on top of it is just under 5,000 lbs and I can tell you from experience that I can tow it but I'm not breaking any speed records going up hills. I also have a 5,000 lb 25' travel trailer but I've never taken it on the highway. It simply seems too massive behind the KJ. Right now I'm strongly considering buying a Cherokee or a pickup truck with a V8.

Oh, one last thing. If you do buy a "Toy Hauler" trailer be sure to remember the weight of your "Toy" and luggage in the trailer when doing your calculations.

I would strongly encourage you to look at the Commander with the Hemi. With the Commander, you are getting a larger chassis, lots of power, a nice transfer case, good off-road capability, and lots of cargo room.

This is a bad idea. The combined dry weight and the contents of the trailer would quickly go over 5000lbs. Technically the KJ may be able to pull it. However once you are up to speed, the trailer is going to be driving and pushing you all around.

The wheelbase on the KJ is just too short to compensate for the weight and length of the trailer.

I do tow with my Liberty. I have a 10'x10" Triton Enclosed snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds in it. The weight of the trailer and the sleds is just over 2300lbs. Capacity wise it's fine, It has no problems with the weight, but you know that your towing with a short wheel base.

Engineers build in a 10% "cushion" in everything they design. Yes, you will know it's back there, but with care, proper sway control devices, and depending on the terraign and/or roads (mountains vs flats) you should be fine. You will have to drive cautiously which you would do anyway, and not get in any hurry.
