Hi all,
The 16/23 of may is looking good for us.
Possible locations that we thought is
(1) Prospect dam
(2) Cataract dam
(3) Avon dam
(4) Royal national park (Loftus) where we use the tracks down to the beach(Garie beach).
I hope this helps and if any one thinks of more locations just add here.

All the best

Thanks Frog, given Mother's Day let's reset this for the 16th of May.

Can we get some discussion going about the suggested locations below?

(1) Prospect dam
(2) Cataract dam
(3) Avon dam
(4) Royal national park (Loftus) where we use the tracks down to the beach(Garie beach).
(5) Glenbrook NP as last time.

My only desire regarding location is that there are tracks (non paved if possible) and the less crowded the better. Distance doesn't worry me (within reason, so don't suggest Tumut Dave).

16th is fine with me! How about we try South (ish) this time? I haven't been in to Cataract or Avon, but the Royal would also suit - although no dirt??? From memory it is sealed all the way to Garie Beach etc???

Why don't you all pick a spot (without telling anyone else), then go there and see who else turns up?

Then next day you can all post photos to prove that you picked the best spot and everyone else can kick themselves for not going there!

Sounds a bit like Irish "hide and go seek".

I had a call from Rob today re the Picnic Day on the 16th. He's keen and
was wondering about the venue obviously. So we don't have agreement yet on
the spot. James suggested one of the three dams, but I have to agree with
Rob that it would be nice to have just a little dirt around. Does one of
these dam sites actually have tracks to it?

We need to get some consensus on this soon. Rob offered another
track/lookout spot abit further along from Glennbrook (Falconbridge I think)
with dirt tracks and views over the city to the east.

Put your thinking caps on.

The dam proponents need to come up with some detail on a 'dam spot' that isn't just car picnic spot, ie it has dirt access or tracks nearby. If they can't find one then we'll probably have to head back to the lower Blue Mtns.

The next one someone else can organise.

Hi all, :BINGO:
Glen from our phone call earlier I found this drive in the greater blue mountains drive section that is a mixture of sealed roads and4wd trails that suit our purpose and accomodates everybody .
The site address is (www.greaterbluemountainsdrive.com.au)/Kurrajong discovery trail.
Cheers James :JEEPIN: :CAMPING:

Thanks James, I had a look through all eighteen. Unfortunately most of them are just too far out for a half day picnic lunch event. The Kurrajong Trail while only a 2 hour circuit on that map, is out past Richmond and for Phil and Sandra coming from Wollongong that is a bigger drive (like double the time) to get there compared to Glenbrook or Falconbridge.
Phil and I actually have been over part of that circuit recently when we were up at Upper Colo for the Campertrailer weekend. Its nice country and the Weeney Creek picnic/camping area would be ideal for a lunch stop, but again its a long drive for Phil and Sandra.

I agree it is worth a run but I think we need to dedicate a full day to that one.

I seem to recall there was a new member that lives in Mt Tombah, I'm sure he would be keen for the Kurrajong Trail loop.

However, the Glenbrook Drive does extend beyond where we have gone before and offers us more distance and places to stop and explore.

What say ye others?

Phil rang me tonight, he and Sandra will give this one a miss. He is changing his timing belt this week and doesn't want to rush the job (also has a dead starter motor in his Hilux to fix).

As far as Appin is concerned I think that is out of the question. Phil told a story of his last run in with the mine people down there and the police are apparently fining people if they get caught in there.

So the Kurrajong loop or the Glenbrook loop drive?

OK Glenbrook it is - hopefully the Loop this time.

See everyone at the Glenbrook National Park entrance carpark where we paid the entry fee last time. I assume we can all find that spot. Give a yell on channel 15 if you get 'lost'. Time to be there is 12:00 Sunday the 16th.

Bumped to remind the attendees that the KJ Picnic Day is on tomorrow - Sunday the 16th. Weather forecast is Fine with a top of between 18-20C (with some clud coming in late in the day).

Meet at Glenbrook NP entrance kiosk carpark. Contact on Channel 15 on approach. NP entrance is on the south side of the highway down behind the shops. Turn right after passing the shops (shops should be on your right) and down at the bottom of the hill turn left to the entrance. We know we have four: glend, dave, gi-frog, and jenko. The newbie from Mt Tombah has not replied yet.

We intend to drive the Glenbrook loop circuit.

See you there.

Great day out at Glenbrook NP. Four KJs (and owners) attended today's Picnic Day. The very long lunch, solving the problems of the KJ world, trip and mod discussions, and general socialising at the campground meant that there was little driving done this time. Very dusty on the tracks in. Photos are here below.

The Campground Picnic Spot:

Dave had a problem with Kookaburras pooping on his KJ (no others mind you - something about the Blue).

From the Glenbrook Lookout - looking north along the Nepean River to Penrith.

James fixing his burnt out brake lights (both of them went, luck he had the right bulbs with him)

Unlike last trip this was a day of dust.

Next trip to be announced in due course.
