So I got my new front drive shaft today from Napa. When the guy ringing me up looked in the box he kinda looked up with a puzzled look on his face, and said "right", so I was like what the hell, and he pulled this out...

Of coarse mine is the one on top ( the stock one ), and the new one is on the bottom. But on the new shaft was a sticker that said that this part was to replace the old prop shaft basically because the old one just has too many issues. I had ordered one from that ebay store I read about on this site; APU Auto Parts Unlimited in NJ, but the one I ordered was for the 4cyl, so I sent it back, and the one I needed was on back order, so I just went with Napa. My question is if anyone has this version of the front shaft, and if so, how do you like it?

At least it did away with the pesky boot!

Well that's why I had to get a new one, because the boot on the other side was completely gone and the everything in the CV joint was rusted and falling apart, and not to mention nobody around here will touch a front drive shaft. So I guess its for the best.

It will bolt up.

BUT BE AWARE! WATCH THE YOKES FOR CRACKS!

I installed one on my Buddies CRD a few months back. He put maybe 10K on the new shaft with some light 4x4 use and the rear yoke blew up. It ended up taking out the fuel lines, T case shifter, a sensor on the tranny and took a nice chunk out of the rear tail shaft housing on the trans....

No I don't have a part number, because I put it on earlier, but they will tell you what you need. It was $460 before the core charge was removed, and that was $60, so after everything was done I paid $430 for it, but boy did I need it. And the thing about the yokes blowing up, I hope it happens within a 3 year time frame, because that's how long the warranty is good for; that's if they even cover that. :? Yeah, and like Digger said, it just bolts right up in, much easier than the stock one. Well I guess I will see how it does. :JEEPIN:

There are going to be different part numbers.

IIRC, in 05 there are 3 different shaft lengths: 18, 19, 20.5~21

Yeah Im pretty sure mine was the 19, and I know for sure mine was the most expensive. The other ones were $409, and mine was $460 somethin', but mine is a 2002 also.

Does it just have one cardan joint on each end? If so, I hope for the best for you. I talked to Tom Wood's Drivelines about this for quite some time one day and they told me that without the additional CV center joint, a driveshaft with only two U joints will vibrate. You should call him if you can still return yours. I don't think I paid much more then you, and this Tom Woods shaft has been awesome for years. But, good luck to you. The Tom woods shaft will require more work to install though (installing yokes on the differential and TC). I hope yours works out.

Ron

From early discussions, I concluded that TOM WOODS was the way to go, period.
