Played with my Harbor Freight Tire Changer for a bit, trying to figure out why it seemed that tires came off pretty easy, but could be a bear to get back on. I removed and mounted the same tire 5-6 times till I got it right and had it practiced.
Image

Turns out that I've been shoving too much of the tire on the rim before using the bar to feed the tire on. :banghead:

Tires go on soo much easier now.

Grumpy is now rolling on tires mounted by me and balanced with a bunch of .20g airsoft pellets in tires.
Image
Had the van out for a drive and the ride is smooth.

So get those tires from TireRack, TreadWright, CraigsList, Etc and bring them over to be mounted for free, just bring your own airsoft pellets. The 5000 ct pack of .20g pellets is less than $12 at Walmart and is enough for 8 245/75R16 tires.

Grumpy's lookin' good! :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

I'll have to take you up on the tire mounting deal - probably some time in May/June. I still need to get tires ordered.

I did finally(!) order a new AC compressor from JeepAir ($240) and a new set of drums and shoes for the rear from Rock Auto last night. :D :D :D

did the rims scratch?

and I had to replace my idler pully set up. I just got a new barring for one of them and a new tension. Sounds like it did on day one, well...besides the exhaust, but thats a different story :D

The rim I was practicing on didn't, but it wasn't one of the ones I painted.

Grumpy's red rims were done the old way and have a few chips, not too noticeable though.

Yea, three wheels would be tricky to drive on. :goink: I'm going to give Treadwrights a call this week and see how long it'll be. The other choice would be the one with the BFG A/T tread. I'm not in a huge rush, though...
