Very interesting test drive.....

Same trip I've done most weekends for the past year or so - trailerload the same etc etc

Results

No overheating
Smooth down shifts going up hill - as in the auto actually shifts rather than me having to do it
Overall smoother driving
Reverse works without shudders
and the best bit - a reduction of 3L per 100 K's - time will tell on this one....

Thanks to all for the advice and parts :D

Yep, I really think its the heat the TCM cant deal with, as soon as theres a little heat in there all it wants to do is baby the trans, when that is what is causing the problems. Torque control, bad timing, wont lock up the torque converter, all leads to more heat. The more the torque converter is locked up, the less heat is generated.

Sounds like you got the same results as me. Do you notice that heat welling up the side of the drivers door has gone as well???

Glad it worked for you Steve.

And GDE is working on a TCM flash to remap the shift points and lockup points to take better advantage of the CRD torque curve. Rumour is that it will be about $200. Lugging in lockup at lower rpm.

Pity they are only doing CRD, the V6 would be awesome with transmission programming that would actually work with the engine and not against it. :furious:

Following on from Cmohr's statement regarding the V6, I think Chrysler Jeep may have done a remap as when I got mine back from Albion after its last service the old KJ is a different car to drive. On a hill now as soon as you touch the throttle it will unlock the TC and pop out of overdrive and pull up the hill like it has never done before. In fact around town now it will change down anytime you want it to. Magic it is.

Morning all, hope everyone is well.

I've been busy trying to figure myself out.. not really sure where I'm up to but thought I'd say a little hello.

I've not had a beer or wine for 3 months  , I've been doing 7 to 10k runs once a week which is good head space relief.

Doing some mountain bike riding of late as the family dosen't want to go off road. I sold all my sk8's (7 of them) and bought a hard tail.... but should have bought a duel suspension bike as it would suit the kind of riding I want to do. Best thing about the bike riding is I can get on a trail within 2min from my front door.

Talk soon.

Hey Chris, good to hear from you Lad.

Lifes a busy and hard game, no clear rules, and any rules you do become acustom to, quickly change.

Stay well my friend.

Hi CD, good to hear from you. How would the family feel about a KJ Picnic Day in mid-May. No real offroad stuff just a chance to have a nice Sunday Picnic in a bush setting with some nice people (close to Sydney).

What ever you do hang onto that KJ its Gold!

INC sold his KJ and left all of the jeep forums. Not to sure why he left, but I do know it was due to person issues.
