My HOT tune just showed up and I getting ready to swap ECU's but don't want to screw up. I saw a great write up awhile back and, now that I need it, can't find it. Seems pretty straigt forward except for that HUGE bundle off wires blocking access to the lower fasteners. Should the battery be pulled for better access?

Also, I expect the electrical connector is simple a pull off with no hidden latches.

Thanks for any input.

It's often easiest to just remove the metal plate that the ECU attaches to, as there are only two fasteners holding it in. You will likely need to remove the battery to get around the wire bundle that is blocking access to the lower of the two fasteners.

The connector is two pieces, each with a latch holding it on. Simply grab the lever and flip it to the other side, the connector should push itself right off.

I snuck mine out behind the harness, I did it like 4 or 5 times without removing batteries. You have to push on the harness real hard though.

x20000 on removing the bracket. When I sent my ECU to GDE, I removed the 4 bolts. Can you say hassle? There's a wire bundle that runs directly in front of the bottom bolts, making access very difficult.

Here's how you remove the entire bracket the ECU is bolted to:

Unlatch and remove the bundles plugged in on the rear-facing side of the ECU, and move them up and out of your way. (I tucked mine behind the brake booster).

If you are standing at the front driver's side fender, look on the left side of the ECU. (toward the headlight) About 6 inches from the ECU are two 10 mm bolts that attach the bracket to the inner fender. Remove these two bolts, and the entire bracket slides out of a slot cut into the inner fender. THEN remove the four 8 mm bolts holding the ECU to the bracket, replace the ECU with your new awesomeness, and reverse the process.

Put your core in the mail back to GDE, and go out to "wash out the catalytic converter." (i.e., stomp the skinny pedal to remove built-up soot from the cat   )

Thanks for the tips, I'll be out there after I finsih my coffee and swap it out. Should be interesting to see how the 'lil beast behaves.....especially if the TC is unhappy with me.

This will be the only mod I've done so it's as stock as the day I bought it 4 years andd 38,000 miles ago.
