Well put Tom... I think by standing behind your product while someone that has already broken the "said product" in stock form test it is the best way. If 2mopar. can break 2 i'm thinking he's the guy we want testing

And hence what I was alluding to. In order to get equal or better strength out of aluminum vs. normal steel, you gotta get into some fairly exotic alloys and still, only solid billet machined aluminum at that (which means very expensive as you stated). Now, if you want to get into ultimate limits of strength, again steel wins as it's more readily alloyed with other metals like cobalt, tungsten, carbide, etc. giving steel nearly unlimited abilities in tempering, heat treating, and hardening. Granted, it will always be heavy though. But there are reasons you don't see aluminum springs, axle shafts, gears, gun barrels, bearings etc.

Some of the best leaf springs on the market are not even made of metal, there fiberglass(or carbon fiber).Though leaf springs are a bit different in application then coils springs.

Hey, what you trying to say???........LOL!!! One thing is for certain, I never intended to break two of the POS factory D30a units, it just happened that way. I'm not any harder on this than any other 4x4 I ever own. Never had a problem of breaking anything till now. I just have a level of expectation that if you ship a vehicle with a 4lo t-case, it should perform to a level that takes advantage of 4lo. I can't stand taking a vehicle out, and the whole time thinking in the back of my head (this part or that, is likely to go at any moment without warning). I just want to have confidence in my KJ the way I know it can perform.

X2 on Mudd's post. KK lifts would not be where they are today with out my "input".

So far, I have been taken care of with any issue I present to him. It may take some time, but he is always there.

Don't blow out a shoulder with all that patting yourself on the back. :-)r I'm sure the KK guys are thankful. And I have a feeling that may have been part of what spawned the new coilover setup for the KJ

I will admit to not being the sharpest tack in the box. But, I can get a HP Dana 30 locally for $150.00. The whole thing. It is used, but that is one heck of a difference in price. Does it really cost that much extra to make it fit in a IFS Liberty?

Probably not but most of us don't have the resources to mod one to work so what are we to do. Also I don't see a whole lot of competition in this market so "price gouge", maybe yes, maybe no. I tell you what if my 30a blows I wouldn't spend the 1500 to 2k price tag to replace it with another 30a when this option is available for similar cost.

I don't think it's a matter of price gouging, I just wonder why it's so expensive. But then again it is a new unit. I will probably not wait for my 30a to blow. That would be a real pain if it happened 100's of miles from home!

If I were to get the $150.00 local Dana 30 would it be just a matter of welding mounts/tabs etc. or what?

Terry

Supposedly the much stronger HP D30 center section could not be used due to driveshaft issues, and that is why a LP design was used. I got that second hand though. There is probably machining involved for seals, etc...

300 of the 1500 is in the gears and master rebuild. Then when you factor in the gear set up labor, machining of the donor axle and the weld labor, $1500 is a really good price.

That is just my :2cents:

x2. plus cleaning the old axle.. cutting.. painting (powercoat?).. ect... it is a very VERY reasonable price.

I did not know that installed gears are included. Makes it worth the cost.

Well, the wait is over! Got everything bolted up and rolling!!!!! Only ran into one issue that winds up being unique to the CRD's (but there again, that's why I volunteered to be a beta tester) and will not be a problem on all future production units. I will be starting a new thread with pics as soon as I get to my home PC. All I can say is; don't hesitate to jump on this with both hands. and feet if you've been on the fence!!!!!

The passenger side rear-facing mounting tabs on the axle tube was too large and was binding against the oil pan and there wasn't enough adjustment in the mounting brackets to move it away to keep it from causing vibrations in the driveline.

Yeah, I was waiting to see if that would come up. Isn't the Diff itself slightly further toward the driver's side on a CRD than a gasser? Because of how low the oil pan is? It's my understanding that CRD's can't have as high of a suspension lift because of that.

Thanks for being the guinea pig on this. It going to save me some headaches.

I've placed my order. Marlin is building me a new diff as we speak.

ding ding ding! we have a winner.

CRDs have limited lift further than gassers, due to the shorter cv on one side
