My personal best was 653 miles... about 20 miles after the light came on, with 1.5 gallons left in the tank. I wanted to see if I could make it to 700, but I would've come up just short. With the last GDE Tune, an updated TCM, and a 192* tstat, I might just make it next time...

305 at just past half is great mileage on an un-tuned rig but it is just great. On my machine, that will get you just over 450 miles unless you are going downhille a long way :-)r

After 3/4 mark, the gaugue will drop like a rock. At this just over half position on my gaugue, I would have used just shy of 13 gallons, not the 10 gallons one would think. I believe GDE claims to have fixed this with their tune. This misleading mileage mark on the gauge was discussed at length many moons ago...

I know the Gauge is off and really is on every car I ever owned but the Isuzu. Seems they ( most car makers ) like to have it set up to stay on full longer so you think in your mind that the fuel is lasting longer and you will be such a happy owner cus they lie to you. then the last 1/4 seems to go fast to scare you to the filling station before you really do run out.

I went offroad on rough trails behind a Jeep Jamboree group, sliding in between trees and obstacles with ease due to the small size of the KJ on Friday. The next day I towed a 6,000 lb. load in horrible weather and got a hand calculated 16 miles per gallon. THAT is the reason to love this vehicle.

That is impressive. I've accidentally pulled over 9,000 lbs (verified at the scales, it is the way I purchase my home heating (corn)), off the main roads at low speeds (<35 mph). I felt bad I did it to her but she pulled through . I won't b  h when I have to replace the U-joints.

Yeah that was the second heaviest load I have ever towed with a KJ CRD. The first time was close to 7,000 lbs. Same truck on the trailer...was just a heavier steel trailer that time. I got 14 MPG on that trip. This time I got 16 MPG and I attribute some of that to the slightly lighter load and some of it to the GDE tune.

In any case...my wife's gas KJ would average 16-17 MPG running around empty. So to get mid-teens while towing above the maximum limit of the vehicle is VERY impressive. Gotta' love diesel.

Also...my rear suspension was close to bottoming out on the bump stops so I do not do this kind of towing often and I don't recommend it. :)

But yeh...a small vehicle that can do this kind of work, play on the tight trails offroad, and still haul a family of 5 in comfort on vacation all while saving big $$$$ at the pump.... those are the reasons we drive these things and put up with all the expensive maintenance that eats our checking accounts alive. Thank you Chrysler.

Really?

Towing
Small size
Everytime I take a road trip it amazes me how far I can go.

This is a reference to B100. I pay a small premium for 100% domestic fuel that is a 5% soybiodiesel and 95% Dino blend. And yes, it is domestically derived.

While I admire you for standing behind your convictions and putting your money where your mouth is it's a good job not everyone thinks like this else there would be no where near enough home brew to go around.

That is true for the present. But that is how new technologies and economies are started, by people taking the initiative.

Cause all I drive is diesels, and I love to smoke out high revving gassers with my GDE Hot Tune. It moves like a V-8 with half the fuel, Gets pretty darn close in mileage to the that of a crappy little eco box car with out putting your life at risk in a compact sardine can.

How can anyone deny the coolness of a CRD?

I love my CRD because it is the best car ever made anywhere in the world and it runs on the best fuel in the whole world and the chicks dig it big time... especially my wife when I talk at length about the car.

Did I mention diesels rule?

I just towed a BMW 325i from Seattle to AZ. I averaged 25 MPG towing 5100 lbs,.

Did I mention that Diesels rule? When I bought my truck and drove it home from Nashville I got 745 miles on the first tank.

I drove I-80 across Wyoming yesterday (and then down the Front Range). I set the cruise at 2300 rpm (@78-9 mph). It stayed locked in fifth gear all the way. The hills are steep and long. This could be a good test drive for anyone who doesn't know the difference between hp and torque.

The last few trips across I've driven a Grand Am with a small block V8. It downshifted on every long hill. I love the power of the CRD. OTOH, I never met a diesel I didn't like. . . at least to some degree.

I hand calculated 25.3 miles per gallon between N Utah and Cheyenne. Considering the hills, the elevation (a lot of it is 7,000 ft and change), and the wind that's pretty darn good.

TJ

Yep, that is a monster hill coming out of Laramie towards Cheyenne, up to 8600 ft or so. Don't you love leaving the cruise on 75+ and blowing by everyone?

Can haul 5 people comfortably.
Manuvers well in tight spaces.
Gets good fuel mileage.
Rides well.
Quiet...compared to my Dodge.
Just an all around cool vehicle.
And the main thing.....the wife is happy cause that's what she wanted.

Your wife is just humoring you.

I will, however, apply your comments to my wife's Grand Cherokee CRD. I'm stuck with the Liberty CRD which isn't as fast or as refined but just as much fun to drive. Unlike the GC CRD, I can smoke a tailgater in the Liberty.

Let me count the ways.......

1. It has lot's of "COGLIONI s".
2. It turns on a dime.
3. It drinks home brew.
4. It gets Tacomas pissed.
5. It gets thumbs up from Ford F250s.
6. It turns heads at intersections.
7. It climbs the dirt road leading to the Mountain top with ease.
8. It has a comfortable trunk area that can be used as a bed for 2 when camping.
9. It gets 25.3 in the city, 28 - 32 on I-95.
10. It's a Great vehicle to take fishing.
11. It can be transformed quickly into a make shift war wagon in case of an emergency.
12. It's unique.
13. It will be written in history books as being the best all around SUV.
14. If you own one, then you're lucky because they're hard to find.

I am sure there's more that can be said about this fine piece of machinery, but my memory is fleeting.
