At one time, Walmart actually sold a gallon jug of Mobil1 0W40 with all of the specs that the manual required. It was a very inexpensive (relatively speaking) way of changing the oil. Does anyone know where in the midwest (preferably Indy area) that this 0W40 can still be bought? I would like to go back to it for the winter when I change it out next fall.
Thanks,
Boilermaker2

Thanks HJ. In the Indy area you can find the M1 5W40 at some of the WalMarts and some of the parts stores as well. I want locate the 0W40 in Gallons for winter changes. Not every WM has Mobil 1 5W40 and some don;t even carry the 0w40 in Quarts anymore.

My discovery: For those familiar with Indy; Greenfield nor Shelbyville have M1 5w40 but the Greenwood County Line WM @ I-65 does :banghead: . ONE TIME, I bought the 0W40 at WM at Shelbyville...no dice since. I prefer the 0W40, especially for the winter.

About a year ago Wally world was selling a 5 quart jug of M1 0-40 for the same price of the 4 quart jug everyone else had. Lately they haven't had it so I just get the Rotella 5-40 and have been very happy with it.

Have you tried your local wholesaler? I found that I can get Mobil Devlac 1 0W40 considerably cheaper here if I buy from my local wholesaler by the case, 4 x 4 litre (about a years supply). Added advantage - I can pick it up any time at this price. No waiting for it to go on sale.

OK, chalk this one up to learning for me. What kind of local wholesaler should I be looking for? Are we talking big box or parts supplier? Since I am not a mechanic nor run a garage, I simply don't have much exposure or experience in that realm. If you'd give me so guidance on searching yellow pages or 'net I would appreciate it.

Thanks to you all. I hope we're giving jinstall some ideas of where to find some cheaper oil!

Most larger cities have "oil distributors" that sell to repair shops and sell oil by the case or 55 gallon drum. I'm not talking about auto parts stores or big box stores. Google oil distributors or let your fingers do the walking

Here in Southern Pennsylvania I can only seem to find Mobile 1 5W40 Turbo truck and Rotella T6 in gallons. At wally world Rotella is 19.50 and M1 is 23.99 Napa doesn't stock either but will order Rotella by the 3 gallon case @ 24.99/gal.... not a grea deal so I'm getting my Rotella at walmart.

The only place I have found M1 0W40 is pepboys and for 7.99/quart

O'Reilleys (sp?) sells M1 0W40 by the quart here in the store I've been in.

I have contacted Mobile 1 directly and this is the only place they ship to, there was another place but I can no longer find the website. When I visit my mom in FL, I stop by Brumos MB and they give it to me for a good price. I buy between 2 and 4 six-packs from them when I am there.

Well here is one http://matrixsyntheticoils.com/store/page95.html#461
