Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can help me figure out some possible transmission problem.

It seems that whenever I come to a complete stop, at a light, I notice a slight thump when I release the brakes just before I accelerate. Is this a sign of a bad tranny? Differential?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am a newbie, have had the Jeep for almost 1 month now.

Thank you in advance.

i have the same thing... took it to the shop and they shook it down.. they said to not worry unless it starts to feel like the tranny is slipping.. for me its an audible clunk not a physical jolt

I had a sound/feeling like that in my '06.. Chances are its the rear u-joints... I had to have mine replaced ( before the daystar lift ) at about 55,000... if its not that, do you guys have nerf bars? ( side step bars ) on some models of bar maker, they are connected by the front bolt on the rear control arm ( bar that runs from frame to axel ) and needs to be re-torqued.. Had that happen to me too.. check those things before ya worry about the tranny...

Also check the ball joint on the rear trilink. That will give the noises you indicated. As you let off the brake at a stoplight, it will shift down to take up the slack and make that noise.

I have the same issue with my 2006 CRD. You let go of accelerator at stop light and you can feel a clunk, or thump, or slight jolt. Not audible, just an overall sensation in the vehicle. I am bringing it to mechanic this morning and will suggest the solutions I read on this thread and will report back. Thanks

Our 05 is started to have sometype of slippage maybe when you put it in gear. Sometimes it will take about 2 seconds before it actually engages. I also get a shudder when I am backing up a hill or with a trailer, whole car shakes.
