Installing Halo Light Around Ignition

Neat little thing to add to your KJ. First find a Halo Light. Found in the yards or on the boards. When getting the halo light you'll need the Halo Light, plug & enough wire to get down to the courtesy lights wires behind the knee panel about 2 1/2 feet, 2 18/22 run & taps & Elec tape. The factory light comes in green yuk...Changed the blub out to Blue Led......You may do any color you want.

Remove the steering wheel cover phillips or 20 torx. 2 screws on the bottom.
See the ugly black plastic cover on the ignition...remove the cover, the clips are fun....If you have a SKIM MOD be careful with the ring around the ignition, you must move this out of the place.
Put the Halo Light in place & replace SKIM if removed.
Tape the halo wire to the harness running down the column.
The courtesy light wires run behind the knee panel on the top
Tap the black wire in to the ground wire
Tap the colored wire into the power wire
Tape up the taps
When you open the door the Halo light comes on with the courtesy lights...Stays on till it times out or you start the KJ

Neat little thing not put on KJ's......Looks nice at night....Chris

Wow, Doubting Toms here...Yes this can be done & has been done....To a 2005 KJ CRD...Looks pretty neat...Sent one to Renegade Dragon on Jeep Forum took him about 30 min. putting it in...We'll see about some pic's...Chris

And what's a "halo light". Is this something that you homebuilt or is it a manufactured unit?

I'm guessing by "halo" he's simply talking about a lighted ring around the key slot. I know I've seen it on other Chrysler and import vehicles. My wifes Honda CR-V has one.

My moms '95 cherokee sport had the lighted ring around the ignition, but my 97 didn't. Stupid cost cutting techniques. :ROTFL:

Oh well, I never found it that useful anyway. Still would like to see pics tho.

Halo Light is what Chrysler calls it...never was a option on the KJ....This is a cheap little neat thing to add.....look around the ignition the black ring is what it replaces.....Chris...Working on some pics. The pictures we be off the Halo installed...

Thanks HJ for the pic's of the job....been a world of fun working on the KJ. Lets do the chrome door handles soon....Install time 30 mins on the Halo Light..Remember the blub from the factory is green. This is a Blue LED in the picture.......Chris

Where can you pick up the housing for that that'll fit the KJ?

Found them in the junk yard. Some of the Chrysler Limited stuff has them....Alot get broken from the yards poping out the ignitions....Chris
