Hey John...it looks like it's not going to happen. I know you've posted twice about this so I thought I would answer but it was really Travis' baby. He set up a night run and wanted to scout it out. I went with him last Sunday and we ran into some AZ volunteer police. They stopped us at the beginning of the trail and checked to see what we were doing out there and if we had any weapons. It seems that a housing development bought the property around the entrance to some of the best trails at the White Tanks. Due to people going out there and firing their guns, they've closed access to the trails. We know of two entrances and they own the property to both of them. They took Travis' liscense plate and told us they weren't giving us a ticket because there were currently no "No Trespassing" signs. They were cool and gave us all the information they had but admitted it was limited and they were just doing their job. So, with them buying the property with the access to the White Tanks and then closing it off, it looks like a done deal. Sorry John...We are looking for other trails for you though. Bringing your KJ or XJ?

Hope to see you soon.

Dave

That may have changed Dave. Read this. http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=8835 It seems they were in the wrong. I and some others have been on the phone trying to find out. They are going to setup a run based on the gathered info and see what happens. Either way it looks like a State trust land permit will be required. Even though one was never needed before nor did the cops ask us for one. A permit will also be required if we did trail in Florance or Table Mesa. The run should happen this weekend, which means i most likely will not be at the meeting if there is one. I have not seen a set day or time yet. I want to help in anyway i can to keep these trails open and i am sure you guys can understand that. I still am pissed that they chased us off. Dave and i were just getting warmed up and only had an Appetizer. I'll keep you guys posted on this. Also when JJ comes down if the Tanks are closed then where too? That will only really leave Florance and Table Mesa open for Decent wheeling. Table Mesa is sweet stuff.

I thought some of that land was like BLM/state land? If not and they close access because of some darn housing development, that is BS and sucks hard. :( :x

But the great thing about AZ is there is lot's of land, so plenty of other trails to run if we can't do Whites Tanks. Come on over and let us show you some fun.
Travis;
Thanks for following up on this, keep us posted.

What if we plan something a little more organized for the Cali folks? Either we can set up a run, or we can join in on a AZVJC run. Any thoughts?

It would be easy to organize. What dates are JJ and others going to be here? (10-28/10-30?) Are these still valid? That would be the first place to start. For now it seems the White Tanks are open. I spent 2 hours at the BLM last week going over maps and borders on the comp. All the places we wheel at are either BLM or State land and we have full access to wheeling. A State Trust Land permit is required. No target shooting is what they are trying to stop and Dave and i ran into two cops that were missinformed in there duties. We even faxed the border lines to the MCSO. :D We ran over 20 rigs in three different groups there last Sat from 8pm till 6am and had no problems. I am going out there this Sunday the 31st to try out some new mods. About the same time i got stopped last time and i forsee no problems. There is only one way to find out. Anyone wanna go? Cya

Garland and I are definitely up for anytime in October. So far our whole month is free, so the sooner we can set some dates in stone...the better. We loved wheeling with the LOST AZ people last time and look forward to the opportunity to do so again. Let's git it on!

I need a KJ to run these washes with me as a pretest run. Full armor, a lift and a willingness to torture the bottom of your Jeep is needed. You guys that really like the rocks will love this place. I am going out there tomorrow if anyone wants to go. If no one can make it tomorrow then somebody will have to email me or post here. We need to get the ball rolling if we are going to get this plan to work. JJ is it for sure 10-28/10-30? Anyone up for a prerun? Let me know. Cya

Let me know when you want to do a Pre-run- I'm itching to go up there again. I just did Chiavo falls a week or two ago, it was great!

BTW, where can I get a State Trust Land permit?

Travis:
I'm up for a pre-run, but it's going to be a few weeks before I can get up there. I was out of town this weekend, and my son and his wife are coming in from out of town next weekend. That makes the soonest for me 8/14/05, or possibly 8/21/05.

Hey guys...

I know of an access point to some trails off of Watson Rd & I-10. I actually live down the street from there and used to play paintball with some friends in the mountains there. They are building homes in the area and the road is under construction, but the actual trail entrance is still open. I will try to attach a quick map of the area, but roughly take Watson Rd north until it starts to curve east and then you will actually see a turn-off to the west into the mountains. I never went too deep in there, but I think there are some decent areas for climbing and rompen around.

If you follow the road to the east then you will see some good dunes in the same area. :D

Here's the map:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=S+Watson+ ... &t=k&hl=en

Let me know if this helps at all.

You gotta love google earth huh? Great program. Thanks for the pic. I know the trails there. There is alot of fun to be had around there of all types. The run we are talking about will be Appetizer, Tax Collector then Firebird and Tie Rod Wash. The are all rocky fun washes. Vern sunday the 14th sounds perfect. I have a Crown King night run Sat. the 20th to lead so i wont be home until the 21st some time. Let me know if the 14th is a go for you and we will setup a meeting place and time. You'll need a state land permit. I did run into MCSO today and they said and did nothing. We ran all the above washes and Ruler today. Only way i can explain Ruler is  What a blast. Cya
A pic from Ruler. Image

Here is a link for people to download and mail in for a State Land Trust Permit. For those who want to run the Tanks in October you will need one. http://www.land.state.az.us/programs/natural/rec_offroad_permit.htm
