502 miles on 17.9 gallons of fuel. Odd that the best milage for my trip was going over the Rockies.

Several reports of better mileage going over mountains. My best was doing the "million dollar highway", Durango North to Ridgway then west and South to Cortez, 34 mpg with four people plus luggage in the Jeep.

What happens is that you go up the pass slow.....like 60mph, wind resistance is low, so your not fighting that. So while your mileage might plummet to something like 10mpg uphill your downhill mpgs are very high(my instant usually tops out at 99mpg downhill)

So half your trip up at 10mpg. Half down at 99 mpg....averages out to like 50mpg.

I like driving in the mountains.

FINALLY!

521 miles - 19.7 gallons. Strangely not a personal record for economy, but a good trip nonetheless. 75 miles/hour Detroit to Mackinaw and back, sometimes with air conditioning because I had passengers.

I can't believe much of anything in this thread! Are you guys including mileage where you are hitched to the back of a semi?

Even with a GDE tune, I did a full tank not going over 70 on the highway (BORING!!!!) and couldn't get to 500 miles. WTF? Some of you have 245/70 tires, which are HUGE on the road, where I'm running tall and narrow... What is the weight of tires like that? There has to be an explanation. Really now. :banghead:

CRD Joe is a hyper-miler, don't compare yourself to him.

Just driving conservatively (60mph, no AC) I've gotten over 35mpg and 650 miles on a tank. When I drive 70, I get more like 30-31mpg, or about 570 miles/tank.

If I went by the EVIC, I would have LOTS of liar-numbers to spout too... But I'm doing it the right way, filling it as far up as I can (Ok, I have yet to actually get it to the point of standing-liquid in the neck like I did on my Jetta... Stupid nozzles seem to just spray foam everywhere) AND hand-calculating the miles, based on GPS only.

Typical HWY miles... 26. Typical city miles for my (now) 6-mile hill-ridden commute... 19.

I'm not a happy panda about the HWY miles, but I'm also thinking that I have a phantom boost leak OR a buggy sensor somewhere b/c I can watch my EGT gauge reading higher than it should at steady cruise... And at 70mph the boost is less than 10 when it is being pissy. When it is behaving, at 70mph, boost is 12, I'd be happier if it was more like 15. That is where my TDI held it most of the time at stable hwy cruise - about 15 psi.

75 mph with cruise and air conditioning - 26 mpg ain't that bad. I was hoping for better but that's what it was.

I hand calculate everything, factoring in the odometer error of 4.47%. Says it right on my fuelly page....

If I went by the EVIC, my numbers would be astronomical. Every trip to Flagstaff and back would be 38mpg+ and my best overall mpg would be 48.6. Not kidding... I have the pics somewhere.

Some people just drive more efficiently and/or have CRDs or daily drives that, for whatever reason, net better mileage. CRD Joe and ac5501 routinely get better mpg than I do, but I don't doubt them.

Best I have got is about 760km on a tank which is just under 480 miles and equates to about 31.7 mpg (imperial gallon)Transport Canada rates it at 850km on a tank (hwy) My number is GPS verified since my odometer reads too low and my speedo is way off (about 8km/hour). I drive a lot for work and mostly highway so I can tell if a change has made a difference within a week or two. I also don't believe any of those very high mileage posts :o esp when a US gallon is smaller to boot.

My fuel economy is very important to me since I get a fixed amount back from work for mileage expense, so I keep very detailed service and mileage logs

I only started getting into the 700km range after I fixed a very slight leak on the hose at the turbo outlet. It seemed to be tight but there was an oily film around the area and I could barely hear a bit of a woosh sound under the hood, I removed it, cleaned off the oil and put it back, just made sure the clamps were good and tight. I found a bad leak when I first bought the truck due to the CAC hose not being seated correctly from the factory, the original owner never found it and neither did the dealer. The woosh was very audible under acceleration and the mileage was horrible when I got it. The only mod so far is ORM and I'm going to do a lift pump next. my lift pump install will be relatively simple, unique and low cost, (I'll post a write up when done, probably close to fall time) after that the exhaust and at some point GDE.

That probobly won't be the case this year. We've switched to summer blend, and the last two tanks I got were 30.5 and 30.1(I am 4 tanks behind on my fuelly posts). I won't be seeing the numbers I did last year for a couple of good reasons.

I've lost a bit of my patience. Instead of trying to stay at about 65mph, I'm now up to 75, and that does make a difference
Also, I no longer have the stock tires. Those tires may have been pieces of crap, but they did give me 80k+ miles and pretty good economy.

I hear ya, there! I can still handle doing 60-65 for 15-20 minutes, knowing that a faster speed will save me about 30 seconds of driving time, but it's hard on longer distances. To Flagstaff and back, 75 saves me about 45 minutes over driving conservatively.... but it only takes off 2-3mpg (or about $3/trip).

For the last couple months, my average MPG has risen from 25.5 to 27.5.
I dont know what I have been doing differently but I like it.
Filled up yesterday, 580 miles, 20.9 gallons. :D

I hope to join the 600 mile club some day but for now I'm happy.

How'd you do that? No interstates. Constant slowing down and speeding up through little towns.

Here in Florida we only have summer fuel

But it had always been 25.5 mpg every summer and every winter for the last 2.5 years.

Has to be the temps going up then. Warmer the better.

Wow, 20.9 gallons? That's reallllllllly stretching the capacity of our tank. I get cold sweats after driving 30+ miles after the low fuel light comes on, and that's knowing that I've got another gallon or so to go.

I'd be terrified about destroying my CP3 pump or injectors....

I agree. I once had the light come on when we were headed to Vegas. I was on I-70 and coasted down the last 10 miles or so down to I-15. No service there so I headed north towards Salt Lake for a couple of miles. Luckily there was a rip off gas station there that had diesel. I figured I had less than 1/2 gallon left. Light had been on for almost 40 miles. :dizzy:
