I'm putting this on 7x15" soft 8 s on my CRD with a daystar 2.5" lift

I have goodyear MTRs now, but they are LOUD! ... I want agressive tires with less noise

Should I go with Cooper Discoverer STT or BFG Mud KM2s?

I have heard the Cooper STT's are very quiet for a mud tire.

More info...

My co-worker has a CRD with the same lift as I have, we both bought the same wheels (black soft 8s) and he already bought KM2s. He let me ride in it today and I have to say that the KM2s are pretty quite, especially compared to my MT/Rs.

I would be happy with the KM2s .. BUT, I would like to have something different than his .. (we have the same color Libertys even), so I am thinking if the STTs are as-quite ... then I would like to go with them so that we have at least something different.

It sounds like from the posts that the STTs are fairly quite, ... I've just never known anyone with the STTs before to compare the KM2 with... and was wondering if anyone had experience with BOTH.

Personally I would go with the Cooper STT's before the KM2's
:2cents:
But then I would also go with Duratracs before the STT's ( just like the tread design better!)

As my review posted a couple months ago states, I got a set of STT free and I believe I over-paid. They perform more like they are made from ground Chinese peasants rather than any kind of rubber. My MT/Rs will come in hopefully this month.

.... So, ... are you saying you don't prefer the STT?

Ground Chinese peasants are good for building walls but do not make good tires.

I rocked the STTs when they were brand new 5 or 6 years ago and I LOVED them. Quiet..smooth...dug like crazy offroad...looked great...priced lower than BFGs...etc.

I should amend my post to clarify my position. The STT performs like they are made from ground Chinese peasants rather than any kind of rubber on real off-road terrain.... your results may vary.

My KM2's are holding up great, great offroad, and aren't noisy in the least bit.

Personally,I like the tread pattern of the old BFG KM's better, but would never go back to them due to road noise.

Coopers will burn up much quicker. :2cents:

I ran 245/75/16 Cooper STT's for a year and a half. I thought that they rode like bricks on the road. They were E rated. I had to step up the air pressure to 55+ to get them to not ride like they were mushy and out of balance. Off road they were great. They also wore out faster than I thought that they should have. I bought 5 and rotated them regularly. I also have an Aussie locker on a daily driver. I have since gone with Definity Dakota A/t's of the same size (C rated). I'm partial to buying U.S. goods and the Definity's are Coopers off-brand made for Pep Boys (made in Ohio so I'm told). The Definity's were half the price and ride twice as nice. I will get another set of more aggressive tires next, maybe the Definity M/T's, but I needed a break after the STT's. The STT's looked cool and were great off road. I imagine the weight difference between the STT's and Definity's is significant. My fuel mileage improved, probably because of tire weight and tread resistance. I wouldn't want to trust the Definity's for serious 4wheeling. Their sidewalls aren't near as tough as the STT's.
I have had BFG A/T's on other vehicles and liked them. It's been a while though. I imagine a BFG MT KM2 would suffer from the same stiffness/weight/smoothness issues as the STT's that I owned.
There's my 2 cents...

Love my BFG KM2's. My only complaint is they, or at least mine, have worn out quickly (only about 26K miles on them). They ride well on the road, and are not much louder than the BFG AT's. Off Road, they have done great from Moab's Red Rock to Georgia's Red Clay (some times in that muck you need tracks not tires). Once in a while at low speeds I would get a driving on cobble stone effect, but I imagine that would be common to any tire with large lugs and an aggressive tread. Just my opinion, enjoy your Jeep.

Cheers,

Groo
