It's their game and their rules. The catch is my Chrysler warranty has a $100 deductable PER VISIT
That means take it in and have the code scanned $100
At that point if I leave and come back when the parts arrive it will be ANOTHER VISIT AND ANOTHER $100
So under the terms of the warranty I/you have to leave it or pay the deductable twice

When I took mine in last week the dealer diagnosed a failing turbo... since the unit is currently unavailable (they're saying 2-4 weeks out) they ordered the parts for the turbo, performed all the other warranty work, and listed the back-ordered parts on another line item (leaking fuel air/water separator). Service writer specifically said they did it this way so I WOULDN'T have to pay a second deductible when the turbo comes in.
I've had this exact experience with the same dealer before
(diagnosis --> $100 deductible --> parts ordered --> work performed later with no second deductible)... tranny cooler hoses, disc changer/radio, and several others...
He also said that since the turbo was already diagnosed - the work would still be covered by Warranty even if it's expired when the parts come in. I've got the 100k Maximum Care plan with an expiration date of 4/4/2011, and my odometer is currently at 99,200.
Needless to say - even though they tell me it's OK to continue driving I have no interest in driving around an un-warrantied time bomb whose turbo could grenade at any moment.

I'm gonna wait this one out, and use the time to do the water pump, timing belt, etc, etc....
