I purchased a Reese hitch for my 2005 Liberty. I have a large bag of bolts but none of them will thread into the existing weldnuts. I went to my local Advance Auto Parts but they said they don't carry the bolts separately. I even exchanged the whole hitch thinking maybe they were missing, but the second one doesn't have any bolts that fit either. I tried to buy 12mm x 1.75 bolts specified in the installation manual, but even they didn't fit.
What am I doing wrong?

Ok Get a Tap and Clean the holes. When I installed my Curt I thought the Bolts where too big, come to find out the holes where just really really Rusted.

12x1.75 are correct. You need to tap and clean the holes like stated or they will never fit. Those welded nuts seem to corrode horribly.

I went through the exact same thing when I installed my Reese about 4 month's ago. None of the bolt's would engage the threads. Luckily my father had the right tap at his house. Even after I chased them they were still a little tight.

This is what I did.

Your going to have one extra bolt. The Reese uses 6 mounting point's and one of them is located directly under the exhaust. Unless you going to drop the exhaust your going to have an extra bolt.

Once you chase all the threads. Grab an impact gun and the extra bolt and use it to clean the threads for a final time. Make sure to use plenty of PB blaster for each hole and compressed air to clean the holes. Also get a container with some water to dunk the bolt in after each hole because it's going to be pretty hot.

Once I did this the bolt's when in without an issue. I still used a impact gun to install them but it made it a lot easier.
