Just fielded a high pressure sales call from the local Jeep dealership offering me a loyal customer bonus of $750.00, plus an orphan buyers bonus of $1,000.00 because the dealership that sold me my '05 Renegade went out of business....(they actually got shut down for corrupt business practices, and hauled the owner off to jail)......

I explained to the nice salesman that the only thing I would give up my Liberty Renegade for, is a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, and since they cost between $33,000.00 and $36,000.00, plus the fact that I have two kids in college, and my wife is paying off a new Ford Edge, that he had a better chance of seeing God's face than he did of getting me in to buy another Jeep.....

That pretty much ended the conversation.......

I have 3 dealerships after me all the time. ( Thats what I get for giving them my name and number when I was looking for a JK) They have all seen my Jeep and keep telling me they would love to have it on their lot...Yeah right
They'll give me this discount and that discount, and on top of that give me top dollar for mine etc
Load of crap :ROTFL:

Oh the place where I bought mine, the owner was arrested 2 days after they brought mine to me. Had to wait 4 months to get a title since he got it from another dealer and was suppose to dealer trade for it but never did ! :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Mine has been after me too. "You are one of a select few to get this deal...." What a bunch of crap! I'll bet everyone that ever went there for anything got the same letter.

My dealership is really good about not bugging me. Theyve only called me once and that was to schedule my free 30 day inspection after i bought it. My saleman does email every now and then, which is good. When I go to the dealership for whatever reason, he always remembers me and says hello, and usually talks to me for a few minutes. It makes me feel like theres a few good places of business out there. I will definitely buy my next jeep from them just because of the respect they give their customers/possible customers.

same thing with Verizon...sorry to get off topic with cell phones...but we have been with Verizon for 8 years...then they called and said we are a loyal customer and we get a upgrade before our 2 years is up...hmmm thats nice. Well, my brother who is on his own contract was with Verizon for less than a year, and became a loyal member...like you said, a load of bs

now back on topic...same thing happened to me and my friend when we went and looked at 2010 Cameros and we told them our info and they said "o, both of your dads purchased corevettes here" they called our dads and told them the same thing...loyal BS

And this is why I like decent independant dealers. I have had my share of dealing with places, but my recent encounter with buying the Jeep was great. The only mix-up was when I first went in to get my tags (which they did all the work to get). Seems the DMV, as perfect as they are, sent me two different tags in the mail. They came out the DMV bag that way, so it was their fault entirely, but was a good laugh.

We bought our Liberty in Wisconsin so as to not give crook county any more lucre to spend on relatives and bribes (and save a couple thousand overall). However we used a local dealership for service, warranty work, parts, etc. Had a good relationship with them and they treated us fairly.

They got shut down by Obama and his czars. The stealership that keeps sending me junk in the mail is the crooked one that I will never have anything to do with.

Oh well, its the chicago way...

Since the "up bus" is no longer stopping in front of dealerships, the car business has shifted to 90% by appointment only. If a salesperson wants to pay his bills these days, he has to work his book of business. I help manage Chevy, Hummer, Cadillac, and KIA stores and I can tell you that any salesperson who is standing around will be asked "who are you with?" if no one, they're then asked "how many appointments do you have for today?"... the answer better not be "none". The vets know what they're doing but the green peas have no book of business to work from so it's tough for them to make any $. We want them on the phones getting appointments booked whenever they are not with an appointment.

If you're not on the "do not call" list, you're going to get calls from the dealership(s) you bought your vehicle(s) from.

I don't get calls from the dealership I bought mine from. I do get coupons for service, letters about upcomming sales and I used to get emails about sales and specials on accessiory items from the Salesman that I bought from. I have only been back there once since I bought it, they are in Quarryville over in southern Lancaster county so its a bit of a drive for me. I do got the a dealer here in town for the few parts I have needed and so far they have been good to me, and not even tried to sell me a new Jeep. I'm in thier computer but I they don't cal or send things so far.

Funniest part of this guys call was, he had me on record as leasing my Jeep Liberty....
I asked the guy if his records indicated the model year of said Jeep Liberty, and he answered right with 2005.....
At that point I asked him if it was common for people to lease a vehicle beyond 3 years let alone 5......I got a moment of silence on the other end of the phone.....LOL

These people are hitting me with cold calls because this is the same dealership where my son just purchased his Kia Soul, and his salesman saw me eying up a Wrangler Unlimited Shara they had on the showroom floor, they felt a nibble on the bait, and now they're trying to set the hook in me......

The stealer told me that with the lift tires Trailer hitch on they would only give me 3500$ for my libby on trade but if I returned it to stock they would give me 6000$ for it on trade!!!! WTF They say the lift would scare potential buyers away.

Probably because they have a narrow vision of what their potential buyer would be....(Young female college student, or new mother looking for safe, inexpensive transportation)....and not a male looking for a versatile on and off road vehicle.

A modified vehicle always raises red flags with a licensed dealer because when they sell it, they have to back it to some extent. They do not know if the modifications are legal, safe, and / or professionally done, so they low ball you on trade-in figuring they may either get stuck with it sitting on their lot for an extended period of time, or they'll have to take it to auction and not get the profit margin they normally would expect on it, or if they do sell it, it may come back with issues related to those modifications.

Trading in is far more convenient than selling on the street, but when it comes to niche market vehicles....(antique, high performance, or highly modified off road).....you're always better off selling it yourself, unless you know of a dealer that specializes in those types of vehicles and is willing to give you fair market value for the vehicle and the added equipment you installed.....

I always find it amusing when some newbie at the dealership contacts me saying they have someone looking for a Jeep exactly like mine. Then they go on to say they will give me more than it is worth. The owner and my salesperson know it is completely custom and I have about as much money in modifications to it as it cost brand new. They also know that it is in perfect condition. I've actually taken it in before and asked them how much cash they would give me in addition to a JK Rubicon for it.

Sounds like a combination Jeep Dealer/Flower Shop (specializing in panzies). :ROTFL:

I hate to say it but you Liberty's have a rep as "mall crawers." they can do much more even stock or with a mild lift but with out spending serious cash will never be lifted as high or be as capable off road as wrangler could be set up. THe liberty's IFS is the cause of this. That being said there are advantages even wranger owners I wheeled with pionted outthe Liberty has. 1. a closed comfortable quiet cabin that is easy to heat and cool. 2.towing....5000 pound capacity, most wrangler's can't tow that much. 3. smoother on road ride.

I was able to take on the green and some green/blue trails at Rauch Creek and I did impress the others with what a stock liberty can do. At the end of the day I was envied for having the most comfortable ride home.

I really don't see why a Dealer would have reservations on taking a lifted Jeep if the work was done Professionally or to that level and it drove proper then there should be no issue. there is a buyer for everything someplace. in this day of internet car searching I find it hard to believe any dealer couldn't find a buyer for a lifted Jeep. I'd have bought one lifted if I found one that was done well. They just want to be sure they make a profit and ensure they do if they have to sit on it some. a lifted Liberty may not find a home as fast as say a lifted JK would

Mikey...
I think location also has a lot to do with it. I'm at the South Jersey shore, other than driving the few beaches that allow it, there's very limited off roading in this general vicinity. Few trails that are open to 4 X 4's, and the one's that are tend to be well groomed fire and hunting trails. There's no rock climbing to be done here, and we only get serious snow once every 20 some years....(this past winter being one of them, prior to that it was '77 and '78).....

A dealer in York, PA probably has a better shot at selling a modified off road vehicle than one here, and a dealer in Utah has a better market than York, PA. Like wise I would assume trading in a modified KJ in Utah would get you far more than trading in at the Jersey sea shore......(then again, there's a reason many call then "stealerships")......

Surf you are correct. it does have some to do with area. there are more places to off-road here, more varied Terrain and harsher winters are possable. the KJ has done me well in the nearly a year I had it. it can do some off road and is gret in foul weather. its all I want. sure I'd love to have BIG 35's and lockers to climb rocks but I am not in a situation to have several vehicles and one just to off road like mad. I need a daily driver that can have a bit of fun and do some work. The KJ does that for me.

an example of a lifted jeep selling here.... A local used lot got in a 2004 KJ renny that was lifted what looked like 3 inches and had mudders, bumpers and a wench. they put it out by the road and in a week it was gone from the lot.
