What are your thoughts on the Goodyear Fortera Tripletred 145/70 16 and how many pounds of air pressure would you pump into them to maximize stability, handling and fuel economy?

I've never used them, but tirerack.com gives them a very good rating. They seem good for stability and handling, though they are not fuel efficient tires in the sense that they are rated as such by Goodyear.

As the Max psi is 44, i would inflate them to 40.

Thanks.

P/S.... I meant 245/70 16 and not 145/70 16.

Hehe, I figured :SOMBRERO:

Those would be some seriously tiny tires! :-)r

I just bought Michelin Latitude Tours (225/75/16) about 2k miles ago. They performed flawlessly through a spring blizzard one day after installation and have been great on the pavement. I'm very impressed by how much of an improvement they are over the stock tires.

I am on my second set of Michelin Cross Terains. The first set was replaced after 82K miles, and they still had acceptable tread-life and were safe to drive. This brand of tire has been fantastic for primarily highway driving, and a bit of off-roading. Well worth the extra cost.

Heh... Driving on bare rims would almost be an improvement over the stock tires!

The tires that are on my vehicle now are 245 70r 16 Goodyear Fortera installed by the previous owner.

According to the Local tire shop, they are the wrong size for the vehicle.

He said that stock tires were 225/75r 16 and I could take it up a knotch and install 235/70r 16

What is a good tire size for efficiency and handling at highway speeds.

With your GDE hot tune and extra grunt, i would suggest that you fit 245's on a lower profile as possible or that's available in 16's so you get as much rubber as possible on the tar to handle the power that you are going to extract from the tune.
This will improve your handling capabilities if you intend taking her on the oval and will also increase your consumption during normal driving due to the extra rubber but the tune that you have done should compensate for the extra diesel that you are going to consume unless you want to buy two sets of tires, then when you go off road you can fit a thinner tire that's designed to handle rough terrain and when you go racing at the speedway you can fit your low profile slicks

No.

The profile of the tire (sidewall height) has NOTHING to do with "putting more rubber on the road" by getting a 245 width tire. If you are planning to use your CRD for racing, then a low profile may help by reducing sidewall flex (decrease launch times) and faster acceleration. But they will just look goofy on a tall vehicle like ours.

Tall sidewalls reduce the overall final drive ratio, meaning that the engine turns slower at a given speed than with short sidewalls. I explained in a previous post in this thread how to read a tire's dimension information. For a hot tune, I would suggest a 235 or 245 width, but know that if you go much taller than a 75% sidewall on a 245, you will need a lift to make them clear the fenders. 235/85 is a 32" tire, and will *just barely* fit with the tiniest bit of rubbing front and back in the wheel well... I would probably suggest a 2" lift for those as well, or you might hurt your fender if you had them off road and needed the suspension travel distance. They are BIG boys.

I'm thinking of moving up from 235 to 245 in the BFG TA KO's. Anyone running a meaty off road type of tire without a lift? Any rub issues? The tires done great for what I use it for. If I can get a little more tread to the ground great, if not I'm good where I'ma t.

I have now switched from the 235/85/16 BFG Commercial T/A highway to the "traction" version of the same tires. The tread is much more aggressive and GREAT in the mud so far. They also seem to ride a bit better on the highway, holding the weight of the truck and whatever loading just great.

These are a load range D tire, 65psi max instead of the highway version Load Range E at 80 psi max. The great thing about these traction tires is that normal tires have 16/32 (1/2 inch) of tread to start with. The traction tires start with 18/32... So you get more tread depth to run with. They run quiet on the highway and smooth.

Oh, and the best part? $135 each. Boo-yah.

I looked them up on tirerack.com. For what I use them for these won't do much good for me. :JEEPIN:

215 85 16's
I have Hankook's 10 ply. Read about them and found a shop where the employees put them on their own cars.
My Michelins LTX 8 ply did ok, 43k miles, I did not watch alignment and rotation well enough and winter made me pull them.
The speedo is right on now, no idea about the odometer but I think it is closer than the 225 75 16's.

The only problem with 215s is that they are outside the acceptable safe range for our 7" wheels. That worries me for liability issues.

For the record...245/70-16 is the SAME diameter as 225/75-16....so the 245s SHOULD have been the other factory size. Have no clue why they used 235s, which are shorter, for the "upgrade".

X4 on the 215/85/16

I now have a set B. F. Goodrich Commercial Traction T/A's and loving it!

Warranted for 50K miles and these tires simply loaf to get the job done and handle, perform and conduct themselves very well.
For street mileage to offroad capabilities including MOAB these work quite well.
With the 1 inch lift these tires fit very well in the fenders.
Other Jeepers always notice the thiness but they cant get 30 MPG if they tried! And I can tell them "ever been to Moab?"

I ran Cooper ATR in P245/75 with a 1.5 lift and they rubbed. I wouldn't call them meaty. I think you would rub unless you went with 245/70.

Currently have 215/85 GY Duratracs. They do not rub at all.

We just returned from a 1500 mile trip towing our 3500# camping trailer and some beach driving. I put on a set of BFG Long Trail T/A trail Tour and for me they are fantastic. VERY VERY quiet and sure footed on road and I didn't get stuck in super soft beach sand  Also fuel mileage did not seem to go down from the oem bad years that were on it.

Yeah, getting stuck is never fun. Mine are in need real bad. Was hoping to go up to 245 but don't want to rub away the inner fender.

I'm running some generic all-terrain 215/85s right now, load range D. The deal for six of them on craigslist was too good to pass up. I got another rim and I rotate all six through!

I personally like the tall and skinny african land rover look more than the wide baja look. I put them on before I even installed the lift and they didn't rub. They're so skinny they don't touch anything when you turn or flex.
