Thanks for the description. A good parts counter should be able to find all that I need. I'm just not sure I have a good parts counter. They looked at me like I was on crack when I went in and asked for Jeep slushmats. They'll probably have me arrested when I go in there and say I need a "nutzert installer bolt thingy." I need to change dealerships.

Not sure why they're selling two plates with such drastically different part numbers and prices. I'm aiming for the $28 dollar one though! I fear they don't have it any more and you guys that got it for that low got a grandfather clause part or something. Good on ya! I'll aim for it, but I'll budget for the part that's listed on Mopar.com.

Let me know if you see any part number on the little tool thing. It'll probably be some time next week before I can get in to the dealership anyway.

The only difference between the $28 one and the more expensive one is the nutzerts. Personally if I didnt have the skids on there when i bought them, i would have bought the $28 one and drilled my own holes and used my own bolts.

But my $28 one came with the nutzerts too. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Mine didnt come with nutzerts, i drilled my own holes and my tranny would have to come off before it would, its strong. The plate its self isnt that strong, its great for the stock skid and will be fine for me, but im not going to jack the jeep up from it or anything. I use the front skid as a jack point all the time, its really strong. One thing I dont like about the tranny skid is it takes alot of ground clearance away.

I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of ground clearance to cover up that big ol' oil filter that's stickin' out my CRD belly. I don't know what they were thinking (shrug). Probably a lot of "I don't care...MAKE IT FIT!" going on in that design room.

Sorry Ugg, I think we posted at the same time. I didn't see your request when I last posted yesterday. I will gladly tell them you're coming and make sure you get the same price. If I can't get it at Hall for that cost, I'm heading to Greenbrier. I like Hall's service (so far), but their parts counter leaves a bit to be desired. You only need the Transfer Case skid?

Ooooo, I hope I get nutzerts! I'll be disappointed with all this candy bar talk if I don't get some!!

Yepper, I only need the Transfer Skid. I installed the tranny skid and fuel tank a few months back. A fellow LOST member was selling his and I grab em before anyone could. Correct me if I'm wrong but you shouldn't need the engine skid. The CRD comes with one installed.

I'm hoping that I don't need the engine skid. Yep, there's one on my truck already. Kinda funny that they chose THAT skid to install on the CRDs when it's the oil filter they really should be skid-plating.

Anyway, I just want to get the L82209026 Mopar engine skid in my hands to hold up next to (under) the one on my truck. I want to see for myself if it's the same.

Nice catch on the LOST skids. 8)

I was in a thread talking about that stock crd engine skid, the guy said he had a skid off a 05 3.7 and it was thicker than the stock crd skid. I cant remeber where that was at. Was it you dog_party?

Nope, it wasn't me that had both of them. But it's the memory of that thread that makes me want to get the L82209026 Mopar in my hands to compare to the one I have. Considering the higher weight of the CRD, I wouldn't be surprised if they used a thinner skid up there. But, at the same time, I can't see creating a new thinner skid just for the CRD as a good business move. All the manufacturers are trying to go to global chassis and global parts.

So I'm hoping I already have the skid and I can save the $40. We'll see. I'll let everyone know when I find out.

Transmission skid, p/n-52128925AC $28.70, p/n-6506644AA Rivets(nutcerts not plastic) 2 @ .75, p/n-65060227AA screws 2 @ $1.25ea. This is what I paid at the dealer. It was a 2005 skid plate but I made it work on my 2003 Liberty LTD. Joe

Thanks Joe. Did you have to do any mods or fabs to make the skid fit on the 03?

Looks like we have one more person that got the $28 #52128925AC tranny skid. I'll definitely check on that one when I find time to go into the dealer.

Just to clarify, do we need the T-case skid or the tranny skid to cover up the oil filter on the CRD? And did anyone find out about the nutzert tool thingy???

The tranny Skid covers the oil filter.

It would seem like the engine skid would do that, but the Mopar parts catalog and names are not always helpfull. The salespeople make it even more confusing. I looked at aftermarket skids to get pictures of each skid and where it went. One site is here: http://www.skidplates.com/products_02_KJ.htm.
You can also look at bolderbars.com The pics on this site show several pictures of each plate. Cross referencing these with the equivalent Mopar plates, you get the following:

From the front to the rear:

Engine/Suspension skid: covers bottom of suspension and the front of the engine. Most of the engine (CRD) not covered, including oil filter. Came on my CRD, but flimsy compared to my aftermarket tranny skid. Catches lots of dirt under it if you bottom out the front end in the sand. When I loosened it to put the tranny skid on, I could have planted a tree in all the dirt that came out from under it.

Tranny Skid: Covers rear of engine and transmission. Starts where the front engine skid plate ends and goes back to the transmission mount cross bar. Covers the oil filter. (Bought aftermarket one. More $$$ than Mopar but thicker. I don't know why this is not stock with that filter down there....)

Transfer Case Skid: Covers transfer case. Starts where the tranny skids ends at the cross bar and goes back at an angle to mount to one side of the frame behind the transfer case.

Gas Tank Skid: Covers the gas tank only. Stock gas tank is plastic/plastic covered. My friend with an XJ does not have a skid here and he occasionally bangs his plastic tank. The metal inside the tank dents inward, but the plastic outer shell pops back out-- so you can't tell if you dented yours or not. I am not sure if the KJ's tank is the same, though. With his XJ he noticed that he could not put as much gas in it after he banged it up. Mechanic took it off the Jeep and pounded the dents back out of it and now all is well. Good enough reason for me to look into one of these, as taking the gas tank off is not cheap/fun. Some say Mopar gas tank skid will not go with the factory hitch. Some aftermarket ones will, but they are more cash. The hitch offers some protection anyway, but not much-- as friends XJ had a factory hitch and his tank was dented anyway.

Next for me is tow hooks and transfer case skid... The tow hooks will be Mopar, the transfer case skid has yet to be decided. Then boulder bars and gas tank skid.

0311_DoC - for a CRD you NEED the Transmission skid, part #L82210003 or #52128925AC. They both seem to be the same thing, but only #L82210003 is listed on Mopar.com. And, no, I can't find a dang thing on the nutzert tool thing. I'll post as soon as I get a moment to go to the dealer and order these things. It's going to probably be next week some time though. :-(

Thanks for the great descriptions Pablo! Nice breakdown of each part and what it covers.

The Skidrow plates are awesome, as are the Rocky Road plates, the Asfir plates and the AllJ Super Skid I & II (LOST sponsor!!). They are thicker and heavier than the Mopar plates and will last longer and withstand more abuse. These are all better skids than the Mopar skids. But they also cost quite a bit more than the Mopar plates. Also, the higher weight is a deterrent to some people too.

I hope all the above links help some people decide which plates they want. But I'd like to keep this topic focused on the Mopar plates. I started it because every discussion of skid plates that I've read ends up becoming a discussion of which plates are the best. As soon as that happens everyone immediately stops talking about Mopar plates because they are not the best plates for ultimate off-road protection.

But they're great plates for those on a financial and/or weight budget.

Tow hooks are a great next move Pablo! Protection and recovery, those should always be the first off-roading purchases. I ordered a front receiver instead of the hooks though. Couldn't find the hooks for less that $80 and the receiver was $104 (shrug). Couldn't pass that up for only $24 difference.

The factory hitch uses the same mounting points as the factory tow hooks. I have both the tow hooks and the factory skid, so they both should fit ok. Including any aftermarket gas skid and aftermarket hitch that uses factory holes. my $0.02...

Those are not called nut-zerts. At the dealership they are called rivets. If you are looking for the croosmember rivets they part number is 06506644AA. They aRE 89 CENTS A PIECE it is a really good deal from what I have been hearing. This is the larger one from the tranny skid but they list them as OEM for the tranfer case but they will give you the smaller one which will fall out so get this correct with the dealer when you first order it. I spent a week getting this taken care of and its not worth the trips to the dealer so take care of first.

I agree Guyute1210. A few websites say that the gas tank skid can't be installed if there is a tow hitch there. But they are just playing CYA. All you have to do it remove the hitch, install the tank skid, then put the hitch back on. There's another website that states the engine skid has to be installed before you can install the tranny skid.

It's all good 05JeepKJ. JoeJeeper put that number up and none of us were commenting on it. Good on ya for bringing it up again! It was you bringing that number up again that made me want to do this...

Here's the updated full list of parts, part nubmers, and prices. I think I'll edit my original post and put this there too. Please comment on anything I enter incorrectly.

Engine/Suspension - #L82209026 - $41.65 - Jparts.com
---or---
Engine/Suspension - #52128925AC - $32.19 - Justforjeeps.com (reported as $28 from dealer)
Transmission- #L82210003 - $41.65 - Jparts.com
Transfer Case - #L82209455 - $41.65 - Jparts.com
Fuel Tank - #L82206122 - $97.75 - Jparts.com
Rivets - #6506644AA - .75/each - Dealer (I can't find them anywhere online)
Screws - #65060227AA - $1.25/each - Dealer (I can't find them anywhere online)
Nutzert tool thingy - #????

Interesting...Justforjeeps.com says "Item # 82210003 replaced # 52128925AC," but they're still listing both on their website. I don't know if that means it's a different part, built differently, or fits differently. I just know what I just read.

I can confirm that too.

Our 2006 CRD came with the tow package. I removed the hitch, put the mopar gas tank skid under it and put the hitch back on, they use the same holes and fit just fine together.
