Not a good time....whew it is hot.

My fan motor slowed down, sped up slowed down....sped up and now does not work. I must have deleted my manual and can not test fan motor, resistors and such. Can someone point me to or send me a link for a manual.

where is the darn fan anyway...it is too hot to spend a lot of time guessing here......

thanks...

There was a recall on the fan motor back in 07; check jeep.com to see if yours is due.

Mine had the recall, and went for 1 1/2 years before the resistor died.
Got a new resistor from Rock Auto.

Did it loose one speed at a time? If so then it's most likely the resistor. It's in the heater/ac duct behind the glove box. It's a funky little one and can be replaced by a more robust one from a 03 Sebring. The original KJ resister is a circuit board and the Sebring one is a real resistor on a ceramic body. Mine went out at around 3 years and 25k miles  I found a thread on "the other jeep forum" is how I learned about it.

10 min fix. Easy access behind glovebox. 10mm socket and phillips screwdriver. Good thing the resistor is around $25 at any mopar dealer.

I was hoping that was where it was. I hear when the resistor goes I would have high speed. I got nooooo...speed. I will pull the box out today and check for power along the circuit.

Thanks.

I thought it would run on high with a bad resistor, since that is the only speed that does not use a resistor. I would say fuse, motor, switch or wiring.

Ok..now I am really feeling dumb...
It took 3 minutes to pull the glove box and drop the cover. I see the fan but do not see any connectors to drop it from the system. Does it twist out? My sight is getting worse in the dark. When I bump the fan it runs slowly and clicks on something and soon stops.

Any one have a pdf of the service manual?

Sounds like the motor is dying. That is no resistor problem.

Thanks flman...the manual helps a lot...Jim :P

All I have to do now is keep a hammer on the passenger seat until the replacement fan arrives. I just thump the darn thing when I want more AC!

Before we condemn the motor, does it run on high with any problems?? If it runs on high, the motor and windings are good.

It runs the same speed on all settings when I thump it. I will check for foreign matter that may interfere with the blade. It runs for a while and then I can hear it slowing down and sputtering to a halt....thumping away on these hot days. Once the fan motor comes I will go into it.

If it works on high speed any other weirdness should be caused by the blower resistor. If you want to upgrade and don't want problems with that anymore, go see this thread: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47156&hilit=blower+resistor
