Howdy all!

I have been reading this board avidly, and tomorrow will pick up my new 2005 CRD Limited with 73,000 miles on her. I am trading a 2009 Ford Escape with 17,000 miles for a 4 year older SUV with 4X the miles... MAYBE I have lost my mind... (I am getting a small wad of Cash back in the deal too)

I have owned 2 Jetta TDI's in the past 3 years, and know that I love diesels, and am excited about all the mods that are available for the CRD. In fact I believe the fact that the GDE programming tool will be available the very day I pick up my CRD must be a sign!

I just wanted to say hello, and sincerely thank the board members for all the amazing posts. This forum was essentially the kicker that pushed me into ownership of this vehicle, and I am looking forward to sharing my CRD mods, adventures, and upgrades.

You must love diesel to have made the deal you made. The Escape is a more popular SUV, equally as fuel efficient, cheaper to maintain, and generally is just a nice ride that you can drive and enjoy without wrenching all the time like we do.

However, if you ever venture offroad, or tow a trailer... the Liberty is just what the doctor ordered. Good luck.

I considered an Escape hybrid before I bought the CRD. Rented an Escape and took it to a favorite place camping. It rained. The Escape was not even marginally better than a front wheel drive sedan on the muddy roads. I then read a review of the Escape off road abilities that said it was a decent place to stay out of the elements until help arrived.

Couldn't be happier with my decision.

I have a unique perspective on this for you - My family has TWO of the 06 Escape hybrids (In the Mercury Mariner flavor) and then my personal 05 CRD. The differences are striking. I can't stand the seats in the Mariners, and the mileage is comparable at best... Not better if you live anywhere that you have to run the AC to stay alive however. In the South (Florida and Georgia for me) the use of AC is the same as the need for oxygen. Don't have it? You will shortly be dead... Or wish you were.

The off-road performance is as was posted however. I have used my CRD to pull out a 7000-lb generator from a DEEP mudpit, a fully loaded (probably about the same weight) box truck from the same mud pit... And some fool that went mudding in a 2wd Ford Explorer that I pulled out SIDEWAYS from what was closely resembling a lake of mud.

The hybrid... Gets defeated by wet grass. Towing power of the battery is quite impressive however on pavement, as it was used to pull my CRD and a 4000 lb trailer slightly uphill for about 2 miles to a service plaza on the NJ turnpike after I had a fuel filter clog on me.

I'm sure you will be VERY happy with the CRD, especially if you are still buying one after reading this forum!
