dealer that i bought the crd from is picking up the jeep today, i apologize as i believe i posted the wrong part number the fuel pump that was given to me by the dealer, found another part number 5140832AB, looked it up on moparpartsamerica.com and it comes up as fuel pump for the CRD, not sure were it goes, but the one i have in my possession is def. an in-tank set-up. it has a float on it and what not, they label it as a fuel pump but it doesnt look like it actually pumps fuel, it has 2 wires going to it that goes to the float assembly, so it looks like an in-tank fuel pump but just has the float on it possibly?

so really this part that is called a "fuel pump" by the dealership really does nothing to pump the fuel, just measures how much fuel is in the tank. in other words doesnt look this part will do nothing to fix my fuel problem.

There would be more than two wires, and the in-tank part would have a small heavy spot (the actual motor) if it had an actual pump in it. Sounds like you have received the fuel sender body, which (you are correct) does nothing more than transmit the actual fuel level. The fuel lines connect to this, but in a passive way - All the energy of suctioning the fuel still would come from the CP3 gear pump.

Take a look at the "Need Help!" thread on the last page, I have posted a picture and a write-up for installing the cheaper inline fuel pumps of the Mr Gasket variety. I believe this will solve your problem as well as KJ119's, it is possible you both are having heat-related vapor lock in the fuel system.

The parts manual says 5140832AB is the intank unit - as Geordi said - pickup only - no pump

so after all that messing around the dealer called me today and said it was an aftermarket fuel/water separator that was allowing air in and causing all the problems, i had no idea it was even aftermarket since it came with the jeep when i bought it, but at least i got the fuel filter and fuel filter head replaced for free :D

call me a skeptic..I don't agree..

My wife's CP3 died..it had a P0093 code and no power.. it would run..but not if you tried to go fast..

Then it quit running all together..won't start..not a sputter..if I sprayed starting fluid into the intake it would run and then stop..

keep in mind all this is with an REAL(after market, same as geordi(Many thanks geordi!!)) lift pump and an after market fuel filter(racor R245).

the lift pump and filter are still in use today!! same ones..so the filter/lift pump isn't always the problem or the solution!!

who made the after market setup?? does anyone know of a manuf? I don't.. I think this is a line of bull from the dealer!! if I'm wrong so be it..put I had to put wifes system together from parts because there is no AirDog/FASS setup for the liberty...

well if it is bull from the dealership then during the 45 min ride home from the dealership it will start running out of fuel and dying again.

o im gona floor it several times because i dont baby anything, and i really hope you are right because ill be bringing the jeep right back to the dealer again and getting my CP3 replaced for free and not have to worry bout it at all for a while, and now im thinking about getting the extended warranty for it as long as the fuel system is also covered, it might be worth it depending on how much the warranty is.

Can you show us a picture of this aftermarket fuel head that was to blame? A brand? Anything?

it wasnt a fuel head like a racor or anything like that, it was a universal fuel water separator bowl, and it had a line coming out the bottom to drain the water out of the fuel then it went to stock Mopar fuel filter head, but yes i have a picture of it before it was taken out and i will post the picture on a photobucket account tomorrow.

so last night me and the boys took the jeep out to the bars and for wings last night, raced my other buddy in his Mini Cooper S and spanked him, and did a bunch of very hard accelerations before the race and the CP3 had no problem delivering the fuel, i will be putting in a lift pump very soon just to relieve the stress on he CP3. MPG are amazing, im getting 25 MPG average on this tankful so far and i have been beating on it at least 50% of the time lol. the only problem i am having now is everytime i turn my HID headlights on i get an CEL and the code # is p0146 which means no reading at O2 sensor or something like that, i can clear the code with the lights off and as soon as i turn them back on the CEL comes on again for the same code. any suggestions?

ye tell me bout it, fuel line from tank went directly to that mess first then back to the stock fuel water separator, then to the CP3.

That actually looks quite nice and installed well. Too bad it leaked. I think you need a lift pump if your going to run more than one fuel filter.

So after getting everything all fixed and it runs great you are going to hack the fuel system to cure a non-existent problem??? I just don't get it.

well im planning on getting an MP-8 programmer, so i figure it will require more fuel if i get into it so i ordered the Mr. Gasket 12-D electronic fuel pump today to help with the fuel demand.
