Water Pump is unavailable!

I need help! I have been trying to find a new OEM water pump for my jeep. I want to do the timing belt change. I cannot find a new pump! I do not want an aftermarket, I want a new OEM. Can anyone make a suggestion? My mechanic and I have been looking for over 6 weeks. Everyone says they are back ordered. The company that is supposed to make them said they would start production in June. Now the parts suppliers are saying they do not know when or if the company responsible will make these pumps. I am about to start calling my congressman :evil:

- parts are supposed to be available for 10 years after a car is manufactured (OEM parts! not after market) I am somewhat upset with Chrysler, getting these parts should not be a problem! grrrr. :furious:

Please let me know if you have a source for these pumps! Thanks!

P.S. All other parts (idlers, belt, etc are available - just need the OEM pump)

When Chrysler filed chapter 11 it did not have to honor "making parts for 10 years",technically Fiat did not even have to honor any warranty in effect before they took over but in kindness kept on honoring the pre-existing warranty's.

Looks like aftermarket is your only choice,or get one from oversea's for a buttload of money for shipping.

That is a bummer - guess I now have a 11,000 dollar static display in my driveway. The jeep has 116,000 miles on it and I am afraid to drive it until I get the belt changed out. Man I wish I would have known it needed this before I got it. I would not have gone near this little devil for love nor money! I can't find an after market manufacturer that provides these. Any suggestions for where to look?

Anyone want to buy a jeep?)

I wouldnt worry to much about aftermarket. If it makes you feel any better I am chasing injectors.

I am not saying Chrysler is not paying their bill on time, but, suppliers and contractors will hold up orders when the accounts are past due. You may need to do business from across the pond. Since there are more 2.8L CRDs in Europe than here, chances are better over there to find a water pump. My son who works in the Netherlands for a US company has found that the UK and Germany are better places to buy auto parts than the other countries.
As far as the Aftermarket Vs OEM goes, look at the country of origin and the casting symbols on the box, for a VM 2.8L made in a European country is better than made in Iran, Pakistan, or China. I love it when I was in the repair business and would order a relay from BMW, VW, or Mercedes and the relay was made by Bosch, Siemens, or Hella; Buy the same relay from AutoZone and it was from Bosch, Siemens, or Hella.
When it comes to ball joints, Mooge with the grease fitting better than OEM.

Liberty OEM balljoints are made by MOOG to Chrysler's specs.

Stock ball Joints are made to crappy specs, Moog knows how to make them better and provides a better design aftermarket ball joint with a grease fitting. For those who want crap ball joints, they are available from both OEM and Aftermarket sources.

I guess they found the bearing cartridge, seal, and impeller, sprocket is most likely been bead blasted. Often reman people will buy new and sell as rebuilt until they get an inventory of cores.

I would recommend checking with a reputable shop that specializes in European auto repair. They have a lot of resources to find just about any part that one needs, and from reputable suppliers. May not be Jeep/Chrysler OEM part, but will not be a slouch part either. These top notch European shops have a reputation to uphold, unlike dealerships.

If I had the time, I might do the timing belt and other parts replacement myself. I have too many irons in the fire. But, I am using a top line shop near me that specializes in Euro diesels and Bosch components for my more time consuming CRD repairs. Just not that comfortable with the dealer doing these things. The dealership might do a good job, but I know the other shop will do a good job and guarantee their work.

If it were me, I'd just get whatever reasonable pump you can find off RockAuto or even O'Reilly. It's an easy swap. Then, down the road, if you're really concerned, order the OEM one when they become available and store it in your garage. The second the one in your KJ drips out the weep hole, swap it out. There are a lot more expensive and tougher to fix items that can break on the Jeep, this one is pretty low on that list.

I lost my waterpump and ordered one from Mopartsamerica on 31 May. Luckily, I was able to find a used pump to get back on the road. I have been in Contact with Chrysler customer support :ROTFL:

I have been told that there are 60 to be in country late in July which has been pushed back once already. In talking to Chrysler, they said that they will fill orders first to stealers with vehicles in the shop, then to the stealers parts desk orders and finally to the online orders. So if your waiting for a pump, don't hold your breath. My only susgestion is to look ahead and order way ahead of time before parts are needed.

I looked everywhere for a pump from the parts houses and no joy, my guess that they would go to some wharehouse which would supply a OEM part. If anyone has a contact to a UK parts house, POST so we can look into it.

Ouch! Feel like I own a Edsel! If anyone comes up with a source - let me know. I will check into the Euro-Diesel guys. Thanks for the idea. If I find anything I will let everyone know. This looks like a long wait. Maybe Santa Claus will bring me one! :-)r

Is it necessary or even recommended on this diesel to change out the water pump when doing the belt?

I know it's common knowledge on gas vehicles to change it at the same time but not sure about diesels.

The water pump is driven off of the timing belt that needs replaced at 100,000 miles. So if you change the belt and not the pump and at 120,000 miles the pump starts leaking you get to do it all over :-)r

Anything involving the timing belt is not a place to cheap out :dizzy:

Well the guy I spoke to was wrong. :banghead:

I went in at lunch and spoke to the manager, he told me it was a order directly from the manufacturer part. He contacted the manufacturer, cardone, and they said they do not have any in stock. If you have a core, you can send it to them and they can reman it with a 5-7 turnaround(est from manager not cardone)

It is a complete package for the timing belt change out with water pump, etc. Kind of salty, but if you don't have the parts it doesn't make much difference what it costs. The site says that it is in stock, for what that is worth. In stock on a web site is dubious at best.
