Put a nut on the stud
Place the strut plate over an open vise...have it just open enough for the stud head to clear.
Hit the nut with a hammer and the stud will come out.

I have done many like this and it is not a problem at all. Later...clint

Easiest way is to take it to a local garage, and they can do it for you with a wall mounted unit. Just make sure they align the strut plate and clevis notch correctly.

As for a trick to compress the spring, it depends on the type of compressor you have. I have used the hook type (crap) and the U-bolt style (good and less risk of poping off of spring or bending) w/o this problem, so I do not know what to tell you. You may need to try different places on the spring to get yours to fit.

Yeah im hoping that i dont have to goto the shop and get them done, kinda straped for cash right now. The compressor I rented for the struts does not fit between the coils, the hooks are too big. I got the studs out just fine. I used a bench vise and a sparkplug socket over the flat head of the stud and just pressed them out, have yet to try and press them back in but its late and dark and im tired, so tomorrow will show if i can.

I was thinking there might be some magical solution to compressing the struts back but i guess not... If anyone ahs insight to this please clue me in thanks.
