Someone mentioned this stuff in a past thread so I thought I would try it.
Found it at my local Harbor Freight for $5 a roll. Took almost 6 rolls to wrap both CAC hoses.
I did this mainly as a preventative measure. At 60K miles I have not yeat had a blown hose,
but I've got a long trip coming up and did not want to get stuck with a blown hose.
I figured $30 in tape was better than $200 in hoses so we will see how well it works.

This product was researched and made for NASA.
It is now perfected as a great emergency repair option.
Each roll is a high strength polymer plastic that fuses to itself-NO adhesive,
so it is not sensitive to cold, heat or rain. This is NOT electrical tape!
10 foot roll, has 3:1 stretch ratio
1" wide, 20 mil thick
Withstands heat up to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C)
Flexible down to -60 degrees F (-54 degrees C)
Tensile strength of 600psi
Insulates up to 400 Volts/Mil
Made in the U.S.A.

With a 3:1 stretch ratio it won't do much to prevent your CAC from expanding and possible failure.

You should have saved the $30 for a set of samco's.

The new revised OEM CAC hoses are wrapped in that stuff and mine have been on for the last 40,000 miles with no problem.

This stuff works

The 3:1 stretch is used up when you install the stuff, not by the CAC when the tape is in use. This is the same product as "Silicone Stretch and Seal" tape from the plumbing department at Home Depot.

In order to use it correctly (I didn't the first time) you pull off a length from the roll and PULL that length to at least double, THEN wrap it around whatever you are securing. Stuff works great.

edit: I forgot to mention - When you are wrapping with that stuff, not only stretch it to double the length before wrapping, but overlap at least 50% on each wrap to get the maximum strength. Yea, you use more of the stuff, but it becomes like silicone iron when you do it like that.

I dont expect to get another 40K miles out of these hoses but I hope to get a few more
thousand miles out of them.
I just didnt want any suprises on my trip to TN this weekend and if I ordered new ones they
would not arrive till after I leave.
