So I got just under 75,000 on my 05 stock EGR, the CEL light was on this morning and took it in. Still under extended warranty. vEGR it is from the stealer (they want $80 in shop fees beyond the $100 ded.)

Drove like it always does, of course I have a SEGR I never installed sitting at home, think it's time for a weekend project.

I'd tell them to let Chrysler eat the shop fees, never heard of paying shop fees for warranty work.

I didn't even bother the key trick, it literally before work and I didn't feel like even playing with it, I work in a seasonal industry and summer is that season...

I never heard of anyone getting their EGR replaced under any kind of warranty so you're still WAY ahead of the game.

everyone's EGR's should be covered until 80,000 miles under federal law. There should be no deductibles...

actually the EGR is not covered under the fed emissions.
I have a extended service contract that expires 10 sept with Zürich, they have been great. Rental cars never a question and repairs never a question.

That may be the new $80 Environmental Carbon Tax fee. :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
Tell them to char broil their hot dogs on it.

Better yet, put in a plate and install your SEGR.

they actually had the nerve to tell me part of the $80 was a EPA tax, I told them to reference me that data as I had never heardof that, got put on hold and then told "I mispoke, it's a disposal fee for oil and such". No wonder we hate them they lie

If it's a bumper to bumper extended warranty it should be covered minus deductible. If it's powertrain only it will not. TONS of people had EGR valves replaced under the original factory 36k warranty back in the day - like years ago.

Everything related to emission control is under warranty by federal law until 80k miles.

I've never heard of paying over the deductable on warranty work either! That is what a deductable is for...the owner's obligation to cover the first part of the repairs. I would definitely not go along with the "disposal fee" B.S.

I know of an '05 purchased used at 28k miles, EGR/FCV failed at 30k, SEGR and fuel pump installed after (non-warranty / $800+) repair of emissions - the car is now at 122k and counting. Emissions testing folks comment on how clean it tests...

YMMV,

Mark

So... I get a phone call, "We have good news and bad news, the bad is we cracked the coolant hoses while trying to remove the EGR, the good is that we are going to "swallow" the $140 for the hoses, it happens all the time when we change the EGR of course your service contract company won't pay for another day of rental car"

I swear they think everybody is stupid.

Back in 06 when extended warranties were a hot topic the ONLY Chrysler one that covered the EGR was the GOLD one. When they replaced my TC and transmission pump it was the $100 deductable and 6.75% Ohio sales tax. No hazardus waste or shop supplies charges. But with after market warranty companies who knows.

The fellow accross the street was the finance man for a big local Nissan dealer. He had a hard time convincing managment that the few extra dollars they made selling third party warranties was not worth the grief when the customer needed a repair and the Nissan warranty was a better deal all around for everyone including the service department when a claim was made

the warranty company rocks, te dealership sucks however....

Strangely enough I also now have a BRAND NEW Fuel Filter assembly on my CRD with new filter. Even more strange is the guy mentioned it needed replacement because it was leaking thru the "aluminum" (it wasn't, I checked literally 2 days before it went in) and it didn't find its way onto the paperwork, yet the fuel lines they buggered did.

I wonder if Chrysler has a silent campaign going on in regards to the fuel filter leaks?

talk about BS from the dealer..
hold on here..I understand the breaking the cooling lines to the EGR..I really DO!!..I had to cut my wife's off the first time I cleaned the EGR..I think it cost me $10 for new hose at autozone..

$80 for oil disposal...HUH??? WHAT OIL!! may they're talking about coolant disposal..ok that might be..
tell them to drain the coolant into a jug and you'll dispose of it..most if not all aftermarket places will take used coolant..they take used oil too..Here in NC the local dump will take both oil and coolant... FREE!!

I would like to see the regs on the EGR and EPA rules..do they apply to diesels or GAS only?

-dkenny

ps if the EGR goes..well we might have to live with codes until GDE eco tune...or SERG..no matter the EGR if it dies..its a goner..will not be fixed..
