Mahindra Truck/SUV diesel, 35 - 40+ mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"While the first few batches of pickups will be assembled in India, Mahindra is planning on getting Navistar to build their TR pickups on one of their US factories. This move will allow Mahindra to avoid the chicken tax, which imposes a 25% tariff on light duty trucks produced outside the US.

“Once we decide to assemble in the U.S., we would look at Navistar’s facilities to see if there’s something available which is right for us and if that works out,” said Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra’s automotive division. “We will certainly give priority to using Navistar’s facilities.”

Mahindra and Navistar are already working together in two joint ventures in India: one is for trucks and buses and the other is for the diesel engines for the said vehicles. According to Mr. Goenka, contract manufacturing of their pickups will be more cost-effective as compared to buying a factory in the US, since “the investment won’t be more than a few million dollars.”

I like how the test truck was pre-dirtied and covered in bumper stickers, in order to blend in. :lol:

I would be more inclined to pick one up if it had the Navistar name on it... Just b/c I am not in favor of getting yet ANOTHER orphan vehicle from a company that may or may not be there tomorrow to support it. Not that Mahindra is planning to sell-and-vanish like MOPAR did for us, but I know how brutal this economy is to diesel vehicles. They will need to come up with the best thing since sliced bread to have a serious chance at getting America's attention.

I do like the looks of the SUV and the quad-cab truck tho. I'd probably still get the SUV b/c of my work. Need to keep expensive things inside and protected.

Yark! The designer of this "Thing" use to work in the 80 for Lada? Dacia? Skoda? Well if they are realy cheap you buy this junk and swap the engine and tranny in a YJ :mrgreen:

I would give Mahindra a chance……… You never know, they may have great customer service and a good warranty plan.

Personally, I am done with first model year vehicles. Yeah I know "they have sold 13 bazillion in Asia, etc". They have not sold 1 here in the US and I will wait to see what happens for a few model years before even thinking about them. For all we know, they could only sell them for 2 years and go away, like some other diesel I know.

It was supposed to be a joke about getting a person from India answering the phone. Seems that's all you get now.
