Whats the best way to change the tranny oil? DIY or get it done at a lube shop or stealership. I'm just worried about not getting all of the fluid out by just draining the pan.

Get a flush from the dealer; at least you know they'll put ATF+4 in it.

A year or two ago someone posted a TSB here that stated Chrysler did not recommend any flushing of any system on their vehicles.

I just drop the pan and drain. If you are worried about getting all the old out, take it somewhere that will let you watch the flush, bring your own fluid, etc. You just gotta make sure the new guy at the shop doesn't put the wrong fluid in.

There is no such TSB,they actually highly recommend cooling system flushes.If done correctly a flush will do no harm to your trans.

If you DO perform it yourself, I highly recommend a small vacuum pump that can draw most of the oil out through the filler tube unless you have a very large catch pan and a lift. I did mine with the pan full with jack stands and it's.... not the easiest thing to manuver without dumping a bunch on the driveway or garage floor. Pre-draining takes the headache away.

Also, be careful with the little filter that presses into the (I think) drain-back channel (instructions about where to tap on it and where NOT to tap on it were very useful and helped a bunch, as did the proper size plastic hammer).

Old RTV is a bear if you don't know that already. Get a bit for your drill that'll knock it off without scoring the sealing edge of the pan or case (light-gauge wire bush bit works well). Take your time and make sure the new RTV has set up before you add the new fluid in.

I did it myself - it was messy dropping the pan but if you loosen the bolts to let one corner drop first you won't spill very much. To avoid the RTV problem in the future and to give some extra volume to aid cooling I installed a PML cover which has a drain plug. http://www.yourcovers.com/transpan_10304.php You will have to do some modifications to your center skid plate to get it to fit the deeper pan (see link) so I've currently left mine off - the Jeep is just used for towing (roadracing) motorcycles and as my wife's daily driver so it hasn't been a priority.

Did you notice the years,does not include very many vehicles which most do not even have a trans dipstick and why they do not want anyone but them to flush the trans due top level concerns as most of these TSB's are sent to independant shops.Plus they only do not recommend a flush with chemicals,which a good shop will not use chemicals anyway.They do recommend flushes if the fluids have been overheated or comprimised(water and such) so if your engine temp ever went above halfway you have overheated the trans fluid and PS fluid.
