Well, if you're only looking for one dimension, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to just tape it to the dash and hang a nail by a thread.

Actually, that sounds like a neat idea, maybe I'll get a pair of those protractors: one for taping to the side window to measure incline, and one for the dash to measure roll.

Thats where its at man....Most of your common weed retarded crooks don't even know what a protractor is. I showed it to a 25 year old weed retard and he thought it was some kinda drug scale.

If you attach it to the Visor, you only need one. Just swing it around for side incline. Thats the set-up I use.

I think the trick would be figuring out how to remove the jittering. The water-filled inclinometers do a pretty good job of getting a mechanical average (since things in water move slowly, fast bumps won't mess it up too bad). A washer hanging from a string would just be hula-dancing around in my jeep (I suppose if I were to stop it would eventually stop swinging and tell me the incline....but what good is that?)

I imagine electronic inclinometers are the only way to really fix the jitter / accuracy problem. You could use a water or oil-filled sensor to get measurements, and then have a programmable chip handle averaging and such. It would be a neat project to try, and would be VERY cool to have red LED digits on the dash indicating degrees of incline. Maybe even have them blink if it gets high or have a little alarm

I use a "smiley face" bottle opener on the end of my string and have the window open so it don't crack out the glass and I can throw out empty bottles.

When your not using it you can hang it on the visor hook.

You should see my range finder I've used for Neutralizing targets over the years.

A "Body Mass" shot at 100 yards is between the life lines on my outer pinkey, and 200 yards is the same line on the inside of same finger.

I have another set for deer and different ranges.

It don't work well at night though.

I've found that bringing a passenger who hasn't done much off-roading along works pretty well. At about 20 degrees of roll, they stop breathing in a normal fashion and begin blinking, at about 30 degrees of roll they stop blinking (as eyes get big) and start whining, and at about 40 degrees of roll the screaming makes me kick 'em out.
