All we need to do is set this up like this forum was set up. Except add one more level of security to it. Make your number the extra password and allow the users to remove thier numbers at anytime. This will keep the legal issues in check since it is and option and you know you are signing on on your own risk. I mean you could even add it into this forum with a little twicking that is if the forum gods would allow it.

Here's the VW rescue squad:

http://www.vanagonauts.com/index.phtml?catid=74

Searchable by area and distance, great way to go. If we had someone with the correct technical skills we could implement the same thing. Keeps information private untill searched for(meaning a bot will probably not be able to find your info searching online).

The now defunct frappr would have been an excellent way to organize the system - does anyone know if a new frappr like entity exists?

What about google maps? You can create private maps and share them only with users you choose.

I would be willing to throw my hat in the ring, but I am in the midst of relocating from GA to AZ. When things get settled I will post what I can pony up.

Ya I'm wondering about that, but would still require someone to administer the maps in the time of need.

What I would like to get setup here is something where its secured enough that spam bots won't find contact info, but that when in need someone can find it quickly and easily.

Point being - recently in my van I was broke down in whitehorse yukon territory canada - I didn't have internet access on phone, only when I could limp my vehicle over to a hotel to steal wifi.

When you need help, you need to be able to find a phone number near you and call it, not login, ask for contact info, wait, etc etc.

Guys, I made a shared Google map so we can add our locations and capabilities, and get an idea of where the CRD folks are mainly located, for possible GTGs and the like.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&m ... db1c6558d2

If you have a google or gmail account and are logged in, just click Edit, grab a blue place marker at the top of the map and place it as close to your true location as you feel comfortable letting people know. Be sure to click Save and Done when you are done.

If this works we can take the map private and make it invite only so people would be more comfortable putting a phone number in it for instance.

Bumping, lots of people have expressed interest, yet few have joined the Map.

Nine people so far.

You don't have to have a gmail account to edit the map. You can just create a "google account" with an existing email and you don't have to do anything with that account.
It's just a few clicks to sign up here:
