Well, I got the following reply from ARB:

Quote:
Dear Adam,

I'm sorry for the delayed reply. We moved our offices and warehouse at the end f June and it's been a rather hectic month. I've been informed by HQ that we will not be revising our Liberty bumper. If you want a lighter bumper you will need to look at another manufacturer. Thanks for your input.

Fax: 425-264-1392

So if you/we want a lighter bumper, we better get a few more folks signed up for this one with All J.

Bumpers?

We don't need no stinking metal bumpers. Foam, yea thats it.

Make a mold of All J's bumper and just make disposible foam bumpers. Less money and they will always look great. No hang up on the rocks, none of that horrible scraping, zero added weight and no unsightly scraches. :P

I'd need A BUMPER on the East Coast to make the mold!

What you all could do is pay 1k each for the bumpers and then save the extra 3 and sell them next summer when people want them, but sell them for 800 or so and split up the extra money.

I am afraid I am worried about not having a job next year, or I would pitch in. Sorry guys.

(although the temptation might become too great if you add in one of those nice disco's along with the bumber and sell it for 900-1000 (please don't kill me for saying that))

If I have my job or another one for the same company next summer, I would be happy to pitch in next summer for a bumper.

Chances are I'm off this list. It's not going to happen in any timely fashion, and I need something sooner rather than later. I'm going to fab a bumper up myself and see how it goes. It won't be perfect, but it will do.

The KJ prolly won't be wheeling next year at this time as it's just not a decent trail rig. Too many curves to damage on harder trails. I've been bitten by trails a couple times now, and trail damage is going to cost way too much when it comes time to fix it (I live in Chicago, so I HAVE to fix the scrapes to not get rust in the winter [fscking salt]).

It was a nice idea; good luck with it, and hopefully everyone gets it. I can't see begging someone to make it when I can find steel, a welder, and try it myself.

I'm thinking u r correct in your assumptions. I dunno what's gonna happen. I'll keep my options open since I don't like the heavy alternatives.

Maybe u can fab something decent and sell them to us! Or at least the plans for it.

You're agreeing with him that KJs aren't decent trail rigs?

NO NO NO! I'm agreeing with the fact that we're going to die of old age waiting around for All J to make this bumper for us.

That's why I asked him for the plans to his home made bumper.

ARGH! Why can't i get a cheap, light bumper! Where's Rock Lizzard and how far along is he?

Just to through another wrench into the mix, I have 85% convinced Skid Row to make their Night Crawler bumper for the 02-04 Libertys. One of their saleman has a relative with a 2005 diesel KJ and they will be looking at that one also, both to make sure the engine skid plate fits, and how easy it would be to make the bumper for the 05. It looks like sometime in the near future I will be dropping my 2002 off so they can fab up a bumper. The Skid Row unit will weigh in at around 90 lbs, with the middle section (less winch and hitch) weighing in at 45 lbs. The tow plates and end caps will add the other 45 lbs.

Take a look at the TJ and Cherokee bumper at http://www.SkidPlates.com

Uh, I don't think All J is the issue here. The requirements (quite simple) were issued.

It's not going to happen because there were so many that said they wanted one but when the opportunity arose they failed to step up. Plain and simple.

Later,
J

Quinn said IF he got 10, then he'd present the proposed project to Steve and MAYBE we'd get a bumper. But without 10, he wouldn't even ask. So with 10, we weren't guaranteed.

Anyway, I wanted it by labor Day, so this is looking less and less like it's going to happen. At this point, I'm still iln if it does.

But that modular design looks pretty good too. Perhaps they save on costs by having the center section custom made for each model year, and the ends are generic. Also the price is ok at $650 or so. PLEASE keep us posted on their progress!

Adam,
I appreciate your organization of all the information and for managing this thread. I have to say that your last statement is dead wrong. Here is why:

macgyver wrote:
So the first 10 who sign-up will be getting a sure deal at $700 each.

Maybe some people did not read the entire post from Quinn and that is why they are unsure??? If the toll hits 10 we will have bumpers folks!

I will give it a short while longer and, since I am down the road, I will get my custom hand built All-J bumper and the rest of you will have to do the same or go elsewhere.

Later,
J

Actually, based on my conversation with Quinn, "sure deal" referred to the price, not actually doing it.

Moot point anyway, I guess. We'll never know without 10 KJ's.

So DRAFT SOME FRIENDS! c'mon!

Steakgoddess, how about a custom built bumper from a local vendor? I see you are in Maryland. Do you know where Forest Hill is? It's just a little north of Bel Air. I talked to a guy up there back in June about maybe building me a bumper. He told me he would be interested in doing it but not until the fall because he had a lot of truck shows this summer and wouldn't have time to do it till then. You can look him up at http://www.cassidyscustom.com. I am torn though between a bumper and maybe getting a locker for my next big mod. So I haven't been in touch with him since the Adams Jeep show. If you do contact him, let us know how it goes.
