I just got off the phone with Garth, the owner, and this place will be open. The rain stops after today. I guess the local jeeping community is going nuts to get in because Garth is giving anyone free reign to cut trees, make trails, do whatever they want to get this place going!
He's got 300 acres now and is acquiring another adjoining 160 acres. His website is in disarray because the designer bailed out on him. I verified that this is an old, played out strip coal mine. The graphic block showing his land on the website is too small and does not show the entire area, but it's in approximately the right place. He is planning on being open on weekends, not during the week - I did not ask if it was year round. This weekend is the test case for hours of operation. The area is covered by emergency response services but requires approximately 10 minutes for a call out to any type of rescue.
He plans on building bridges as the revenue comes in to connect some of the many "fingers" in the area. Only the "main" bodies of water are of the submerge your entire vehicle type.
He said for everyone to come on down and enjoy as the process and development of his new off road park gets going. Lots of narrow trails, and this weekend, LOTS of mud. The area is all mud, dirt, water, and trees and he said the shallower bodies of water tend to dry up pretty good in the summer. That's all the recon I can do for now as I'm booked up for quite some time on the weekends.
