My question would be..
the mechanics of the assembly fail? or does the motor not run?

different problems that require different solutions...

for the motor not running..
My wife had this problems on the driver door..several times..I finally cable tied the connector down..if you look at how this was run..its a wonder they work at all.
right out of the motor are 2 knife edge connectors(there might be better term) then a 90 degree socket then the wiring harness..any flexing on the socket.wireharness and the knife edge fails..an electrical problem not mechanical. I cable tied this connector down...the tie is after the 90 degree bend..its been 1yr and no other problems..

for mechanical issues..do you lube the window channels? Silicon spray is the best..it has a factor part number even.

The most common failure is the little plastic connector that attaches the cable to the guide rail. It just snaps. Steiger's part is a metal replacement for that piece.

I talked to Tara this morning. there will be an extended warrenty program starting in Dec. that will cover the regulators.
all original owners will be mailed info on this. If you provide proof you will be reibursed for the cost of repairs. so start digging up your old reciepts for your parts.

Oh, that is truely good news. I just got the Steiger parts yesterday but I think I'll just go ahead and install them and file for reimbursement. Right now I have some wedges holding the back windows up and I can't live like this for a prolonged period.

Did she say anything about second owners?

Tara did not say anything about second owners. I am sure it would be covered though. But how would they contact you? I will post the info when I get my letter though.
Or you could call her and I would imagine she would be able to help you out. I was not expecting her to be helpful , but in fact she returned my call and was more than helpful. In the mean time I will be digging up receipts, which I'm afraid are long gone X 5.

Will the reimbursement only cover OEM replacement (which I did a few months ago), or will it cover the Stieger also?

I sent an email to Jeep customer service the other day and am awaiting a response. I did get one saying it had been escalated which I consider a good omen...as opposed to a stock reply.

On thing that amazed me about my rear window failures is that the rear are never operated. I'd bet that in 5 years of ownership they have not been cycled 20X. Also, when they did fail they just dropped without having been operated. That and they both failed with 7 days of each other. The Jeep had not been used for 4 months and the first time out one failed. Weird.

Litton, that's what happened three times with ours. My wife walks out in the morning for work and rear window down...we never put down the rear windows because of the wind vibration inside.

I'm wondering if the plastic becomes brittle with age and heat soaking...even though ours is in the garage it still gets pretty toasty during the AZ summers.

I'd image that's exactly what happened. I lost my first regulator clip within a few months of moving to AZ.

I had the dealer replace the right rear regulator last month. It cost $108 with the extended warranty. I got a call from Jeep yesterday. The lady wanted to know how much I paid to get it fixed. She also said that there is a possibility I will get a refund because there is a possible warranty extension for the regulators in December. But she wouldn't promise anything.

Well, I got busy today and started installing the Stieger repair kits. The first one (LR) took me almost 4 hours but part of that was figuring exactly how to get the door panel off and, believe it or not, the stupid connector for the motor totally baffled me. I finally ripped the plastic rivets loose that hold the connector assy in place so I could see what I was doing. Translating the instructions into action was a slow process but eventually it all fell into place. Now bare in mind, I'd never opened up a door panel before so everything was a new experience.

I was so pleased that it not only worked but actually went back together again, I jumped right into the RR door. That one only took about 45 minutes and surprise, that one worked also.

My wife thinks I'm a hero and immediately handed me a nice glass of scotch. All is well in the world.

Now if Jeep reimburses me for the parts, I will just swoon with delight.

I think they should reimburse you for the scotch to cover the labor.

Same experience as some:
1) left rear failed
2) ordered and received Steiger kit
3) days later, right rear failed
4) still under warranty AND have extended warranty w/$100 deductible
5) paying deductible would have been cheaper than another Steiger kit
6) called dealer and they replaced BOTH at NO CHARGE
7) kept Steiger kit for 'next time'

Was told by the dealer this is a Chrysler 'goodwill' warranty item from 2006-on. Ours is a 2006.

If you're strapped for cash, a call to the dealer might get it fixed in a few hours. It didn't take them long.

Replaced the left rear with the over-priced Steiger, now the right rear has bought the farm.

I called her about this last week. She called me back the next day. Very friendly. She took my new address down, and told me if anything breaks save the receipts. She also said I should be getting a letter in the mail in early Dec and that I will be able to have non broken ones replaced then.

One would argue that overpriced is defined as costing more than fair market conditions would support....and I think Steiger is selling just fine at the current pricepoint.

not saying I like shelling out the mulah for one, but I definitely feel like I'll only need to do it once (per window). If you guys make a equal or better product for less money, I'll buy it :)

Dan
